Can I ask what type of work you are/were doing? Looking to stay in the same field? Is it the nature of such that is a mismatch for you environmentally?
I've been in the retail sector for 30+ years. I would much rather be working behind the scenes so that's what I'm going to try to go after if I stay in retail. I'm not very computer savvy so something involving that is pretty much out of the question unless I find someplace that will train me on even just the basics.

What would you want to do that would involve computer skills? Design? Inventory management? Something else?

I'm referring more in terms of if I applied at say an insurance company to do a job that involved working on a computer, etc. It's not a strong suit for me. I know basics, but am not a whiz at creating folders, etc.

Good luck KRF. It's not easy finding something after 50, so keep at it and something will come around. I'd still go into HR and explain why you are leaving and especially the manager basically calling you a liar over communication devices, and ask that it be part of your file. Then sign up for unemployment. They will probably fight it, but request an appeal. Having something that the employer has caused mental anguish on you is sometimes helpful in getting UC.

If it comes to that, you got a friend in me. Folder management isn't too hard. Just imagine the PC is a little office. The files and folders are your cabinet. The desktop your workspace and so on.

Always remember the main rule of Windows: if you want to affect it, you must select it.

If you say that in Jesse Jackson's voice, it's more entertaining.

I echo what DiO'Bolic said. In my eyes, 56 is still quite young, especially for someone who "thinks young". Your peace-making skills, affable personality, and record of hard work should be an asset to your next employer. My hope is they will recognize that. There is a job suited for you out there and I hope you find it and, in doing so, find your bliss. Meanwhile, just breathe. I will pray for doors of opportunity to open and that you choose wisely. Keep us posted.

I don't think it's an age issue as my manager is the same age. He's just very moody and can be up and down 10 times in a day. He was an assistant manager who was forced to become a manager so that plays into his day-to-day outlook. I get that but it's not my fault and I'm not going to let anyone take things out on me with snide remarks, etc. He's also gay so it can't be anything like that either, unless he's jealous that I still look fabulous at our age......;-D
That's it!!!

Hi All. I turned in my two weeks notice on Saturday so June 3rd will be my last day of employment. I have no job lined up to go to. I finally reached the point where I could not take any more of the stupidity of management and stress that this job involves. Plus, my manager basically called me a liar on the walkie-talkie headsets that everyone wears and even after it being pointed out to him by another employee that he was in the wrong (I wasn't lying) he didn't have the decency to apologize to me for his mistake. Sorry, but one of my main credos in life is don't call me a liar. I cannot work for someone who obviously doesn't think very highly of me or respect me. Many of you know that I have not been happy at my job for quite some time. My inner voice tells me it's time to move on and that's what I'm doing. There's so many things wrong with this job and company and I'm not going to have a mental breakdown because of a job. I'm scared out of my mind as I'm a 57 year old male with limited skills so I don't know what's going to happen in the next few months but I intend to give it my best. I'm going to need as many well wishes and happy thoughts that you all can spare. Thanks for 'listening'.
I am so proud of you (((Dana,))) it takes a sh1t-ton of courage to get out from underneath someone's thumb and I am so happy that you've taken this step. You are a positive and hard-working man and I think these qualities will see you into something new and in a place where you are respected and treated fairly.
Please keep us posted, you have all of my best wishes. xox

I am hoping to have my lovely little 'exit' interview soon and I won't be holding back. I sure didn't hold back on the part on the two week notice form where it says 'Please explain why you are leaving.' I have so much **** on them on my phone it's not even funny. They just don't realize yet who they've messed with. I have five witnesses to what the manager said to me on the headset.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Scott. You and I have shared a few things here in PM's so you know where my mind is (was) and I shared my heart with you about what was happening a few months ago. I'm very thankful that you gave me the space to 'come back' and not leave me in the dust (which you certainly could have- I was a b*tch then and I'm still sorry). Thanks for sticking by my side, my friend. You know you have my love and appreciation forever. When we meet you best be prepared for the biggest bear hug of your life!
