I have not yet read On Writing nor do I own a copy. I plan to purchase it soon online though if I do not come across it on one of my many SK book hunts at the flea markets and thrift stores. I live in the Tampa Bay area in Florida and these type of venues are plentiful around here (not to mention I am about an hour or less north of Stephen King's summer home, just thought I'd throw that out there, lol).
For example, I went to two different flea markets on Sunday morning and returned home with THIRTY ONE SK books and 7 movies!!! Most of the books are hard covers and several old first editions. Want to know how much I paid for all of that? Oh, around $50 total!
When I go hunting I do not mess around. I buy hard cover, paperbacks, duplicates, everything I can find. I got a lot I didn't have and some I already do, but I like to have duplicates in case someone would like to borrow one, then I won't have to worry about it being returned.Well, that and I am hoping at least one of my four children, hopefully more than just one, will be as big of a fan as I am.
Before Sunday my collection consisted of 37 books, so I pretty much just doubled that number in the matter of a day! I am hopeful that I will stumble upon On Writing soon. My recent hunt got me Duma Key and Full Dark, No Stars, both pristine hard covers for $1 each. So it's not just the oldies but goodies I find!
Some of my favorites, oh jeez, this is the question I dread because each one that I have read is special in it's own way and it's so hard to choose a few. I don't think I could ever pick a #1, but some of the ones that are most special to me are The Talisman (this was my first SK read and the book that made me fall in love with Mid-World), the DT series of course - including TWtTK, The Stand, Black House, UTD, Doctor Sleep, and IT. But there are several more I love, many still to read, and some I have read long ago and are due for a re-read, but finding the time to back track is almost non-existent. I was starting 11/22/63 most recently, but Sunday changed that. It's back in it's place on it's shelf and I am sitting here typing this with a hard cover The Eyes of the Dragon on my lap. I have been hunting this book for a long while now and Sunday I finally was victorious! Sure, I could have just ordered it online, but what's the fun it that??!!!
I want to thank each and every one of you for the very warm welcome!!! It's more than I expected and honestly, I am humbled by it.
It really means a lot to me!!! I moved from my hometown in Ohio (same city Seth Garin, and family, was from) all the way down here to Tampa 2 1/2 years ago and have not made a whole lot of actual "friends" here. Not that I have been actively looking. I don't trust very many people in this bizarre world we live in, so I am very cautious. I also recently ended a 6 year relationship, so there's that too. But it's a good thing I don't mind being alone, and I'm never REALLY alone with 4 kids and all of these BOOKS am I?! Ha! But seriously, I am very grateful to be welcomed in such an awesome way.
And thank you Blunthead, I was a complete (okay, not complete, but almost) f**k up for a long time, so I thought it was about time to make some changes and do something I could be proud of, besides have beautiful and smart kids, and better myself in a way that will benefit all of us.
So wow, this is pretty long, but I warned you all that I love to write. Reading and writing is my thing. Please don't ever ask me a math question.
