(Go to bed. Go to sleep. What are you people doing up so late at night? ;;D)

I think I liked it better when TV shows were NOT available On Demand.

In the olden times, Poppa, Momma, and the kids would all gather round the tv set and watch shows together. It was a time of family, together-ness and the anticipation of Whats going to happen next!

Dang. I remember the the finale of M*A*S*H.

I made a bunch of food and all 157 of us got together in our little living room to watch it. It was way cool.

Seems like technology is giving us all we want. At a flick of a finger. But we forget what we once had. And what we once had...was way cool.

Peace.

One of my favorite memories was watching The Wizard of Oz once a year with my family. How special it was to be able to see it only that one time each year.

Also, the Christmas specials were so magical. We would watch for the ads which gave us the dates and times and, like you said, Sigs, gather around the TV for that special treat.

Being able to watch shows over and over, and rewind every scene...sometimes good, sometimes bad.

I totally agree.

Easter Saturday was Ber Hur. May Bank Holiday a James Bond film. Christmas Eve West Side Story (for some reason?????)

I also preferred it when food was seasonal. Citrus fruits the Christmas period when they were ripening off in Spain, Aspargus in late spring/early summer etc etc. Now you can walk into the supermarket any time of year and get anything but it tastes of nothing most of the time.

I liked it better when i played Old video games and some childhood games outside the house. I miss the moment where the only thing i do is to sit down at front of my PS and sega controller and family PC. and to socialize with my childhood friends, playing hide and seek, and some other filipino street games. i miss my childhood

Times when you had a conversation on the phone, connected to wall, and were not interrupted by a beep that someone else was calling you. You paid attention to that person, and didn't say " just a minute, I have another call coming in".
Season TV specials with family around the TV.
Yes, to seasonal foods that tasted like food, not cardboard.
Getting to stay up past a bedtime for a special TV show.

The Wizard of Oz was always a special thing when I was growing up, too. When we were small, and it was getting close to that being on tv, my mom would make sure to have groceries put in big boxes at the store instead of paper bags. Then we would draw and color on them, make them into cars...headlights, doors, wheels, the Ford emblem. :D Then "drive" our cars to in front of the tv, and watch like we were at the drive in. Complete with snacks. ;-D

I like having the On Demand feature, but I get what you all are saying. Watching a movie or a show together as a family is very special and I'm lucky (very lucky) that my kids still are able to be there to do it. Times change as do the shows. Now it's Game of Thrones that we all watch together along with a few others like Survivor for example. Rudolph, The Grinch (with Boris not that Jim Carey thing) and of course Charlie Brown Pumpkin and Christmas are a few of the shows we still don't miss when they air just like when the kids were small.

Cat, that is so cool! I love it!

Y'all know I grew up in a small town. Thanksgiving was spent at gramma's house. She had a black and white TV until I was 5. Yes, folks! I did not realize that the Wizard of Oz changed from black and white to color then back again, until I was 5 years old!;-D

That is so cool, CAT!!!

I really enjoy having the OnDemand feature. Sometimes, I have to work late or my daughter might be at her dad's house when we want to watch something. She and I never miss watching The Big Bang Theory together.

Some of my best memories are watching shows like How The Grinch Stole Christmas, Rudolph, and The Charlie Brown specials with my brother. We never failed to watch the Grinch together.....even when we were grown. Mark would always call me a day or two ahead of time to remind me it was coming on. The year he died, I actually cried real tears when it came on.

I miss the Saturday Night Live of the 70s & 80s, watching Tales From the Crypt, and Tales From the Darkside.

I have The Wizard of Oz on DVD......but I still only watch it once a year.

I get nostalgic for the "old days" too.
If it wasn't for on-demand (or in my case, streaming, since we don't have cable) though, I'd never be able to watch anything.
My kids aren't into TV and the things the hubby and I like aren't appropriate for our son (who overheard us watching the Sopranos last year when we thought he was asleep and has been swearing like a mob boss ever since).
But as for holiday programming, I agree. It's not special to "catch" Charlie Brown Christmas when it airs if the kiddo has been watching it on Netflix since July.
