This has been the policy for many years. It also applys to students. When my daughter was in middle school years ago, some girl she didn't even know walked up to her in the locker room and started punching her. In self defense, my daughter pushed her. Because she physically touched the girl who was hitting her, my daughter was ordered to go to "Saturday School" for one day as a punishment. Can you believe it?? My husband and I went to the school immediately; we were furious! After a lengthy meeting with the principal, he reluctantly agreed to drop the punishment. Then he told us that if our daughter was ever involved in another fight, she'd be in big trouble! :facepalm_smiley:

I think a lot of ths is backlash from the days when punishment was handed out without any thought. When my son was in primary school he was being picked on by three boys. When he had enough he lashed out. The teacher told me it was a 'telling' school and he should have told a teacher. I asked her where the teacher was for him to tell. Words back and forth. You get the idea. Long and short they increased teacher presence in the yard, so it was kind of a win.

And where do our children learn respect? With a parent like the one quoted in the article, it's not hard to see why kids don't care. If one kid had killed the other while the teacher did nothing, would the parent then have reacted in that way? I think not.

Teacher would have been sued by parent and a judge would find for the parent.
