Neesy tried to explain this a while back. I so dumb, I make the guys in dumb and dumber look like Einstein. Is that the only way that an alert appears? I thought it came up when you pressed 'like' down the bottom-right of someone's message.
You can be alerted for several thangs!
If someone likes your post, quotes your post, or tags you, you can be alerted. Where your username appears at the top of your page...the little tab?
Click on that and go to Alert Preferences to check the boxes that you want.

FlakeNoir and blunthead are the best! Flake is fair and impartial and is a great mod. Blunt posts beautiful Van Gogh paintings and sweet videos. kingricefan (krf) is hilarious, and Neesy and Debbie913 are the sweetest.
Here's a tip for ya. If you want to "tag" someone (which will show up in their alerts), just put the @ symbol and start typing the username. A little window will pop up and then click on their username. It will show up underlined in the post, and they will get an alert that you were talking about them! Although it works for some, but not all. I have the box checked in my Alert Settings to receive an alert when I'm tagged, but I never do. :(

Hey if you go up to the top right of the page where it say Danie-inbox-alerts. Then hold the arrow over danie but dont click it... there is an option for Alert prefrences. If you click on that it will have your alert prefrences does yours have "alert me when tagged"checked?

I have also neglected playing guitar to. But that is okay because I have had a maaaad case of music block for like a year straight. It just literally shut off for some reason. I don't know. I just stopped feeling music in my soul. It is weird.
Gotta go to the woodshed. Practice. Do your scales and exercises every day. It'll break you out of that. I've been playing for 25 years now and did so professionally for a time. I am still at that level, but don't gig any more. Practice. Best advice I can give. It works. Trust me.

Yep. And I unchecked it and rechecked it and rebooted and restarted and saved changes and EVERTHIN.
But still no tag alerts. Somethin is up.

You also get alerts when someone you follow starts a thread and maybe general posts.

I took guitar lessons in my early 20s, and am thinking about getting back into it again. I played a bit the other night and my fingers are already KILLING me.

I have yet to fallow anyone because I heard that you get an alert every time they post something and I don't know if I could take that kind of pressure. I would feel like I should read whatever they say because I am fallowing them. I am just crazy like that :dribble:

Well if you are on a occustic(how the hell do you spell accustic) you might try Nylone strings they are very soft. If you are playing an electric THEN QUIT BEING A BABY" I learned guitar at like 13 by sneaking and playing my brothers electric then learned took lessons in jr high and had to play accustic. I had steal string and MY FINGERS WERE HORRIDLY PAINFUL but I could not stop playing eventually I got these ugly callises then I stopped playing for while lost the cal. on my fingers and picked it back up and had the process start all over. It does suck but it will make you appreciate it more. Like hard work LOL

LOL, my callouses are just part of my fingers now. When I play a lot, they feel like compacted sand. I can stick needles in them and don't feel it. Can also hold a flame to them for bit before I feel it. I've been woodshedding lately on the acoustic. I just got down the full harmony and melody leads for "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". It's pretty hard to play, but sounds pretty damn cool!
