I loved it too. I wish Joe could crank them out faster than one every three or four years. ;-D All 4 of his novels are top notch.

Has anyone heard if there is any reaction from Martha Quinn about having her own island in The Fireman? ;-D

She makes a passing reference to it on her Facebook page. Something along the lines of wanting to read it. Her Twitter page actually hurts my head to look at but that is another story. I wonder if Joe had to get her permission? It is a very strange choice as I doubt almost anyone remembers her.

From the Goodreads interview with Joe

GR: Former MTV veejay Martha Quinn plays a wonderfully bizarre role in The Fireman (as does '80s music in general). Have you contacted her to let her know of her potential future role as messiah at world's end?

JH: I had a wicked crush on her when I was 14. Those skinny ties! No, I haven't tried to reach out to her. But I know some folks on Twitter have mentioned that the book features a cameo by a brave, inspiring Martha Quinn, who offers both salvation and a sugary selection of '80s pop.

Oh believe me, people of a certain generation definitely remember her. And there's a lot of us! :p

Finally finished The Fireman. I didn't love it as much as many of you did. I started out loving it, but it went on for too long and I never felt connected to any of the characters other than Renee. Don't get me wrong, I liked it a lot, but NOS4A2 is still my favorite of Joe's novels; The Fireman comes in second. I think my high hopes colored my reading of it.
