Interesting... Had not read about it although i knew excavations were going on on Öland. Ringforts were very common in sweden at this time but usually they used the topography as a shielding factor, Used hills that were very steep on at least two, preferably three sides so you could put all your defense resources at one point. This was much more difficult on Öland which is a very flat island. Hills are practically absent from the landscape. which make the concept of a ringfort difficult to defend for the people living in it.. I personaly believe this is the results of a neighbouring tribe or clan but not from the island. The women were either sold or kept as campwhores. An attack from the south (Poland, Germany) or from the west (Swedish mainland) are most likely i think but the east (the baltic tribes) is also a possibility. That the weapons are missing is not really strange, they were needed but it seems like Sandby wasn't the attackers ultimate goal. If it was they would have taken more valuables, now they just took what they could use for their goal; the weapons, some food but far from all and the women. What that goal was is impossible to tell. Remember, this is just what i think.Kurben, have you read about this? I'd like to hear your thoughts about it.
Scientists find skeletons in the street from 'truly horrifying' massacre
Thank you Kurben. I thought it was very interesting. The fact children and men killed, weapons taken but no valuable things like jewelry or necessity items taken. And in reading the article, it appeared that maybe it was a surprise attack as people were in their dwellings, cooking and doing ordinary things like that. Fascinating stuff. I appreciate your time.Interesting... Had not read about it although i knew excavations were going on on Öland. Thats also a difference between the ringforts on the mainlands and Öland.. People lived there probably permanently while on the mainland it was places you went to when danger threatened you and your community. There is a Ringfort close to me (ca 400-500 AD) where the entrance goes through two gates with a 90 degree angle in between. And yes, it almost certainly was a surprise attack. Always has been one of the best way to attack anyone. Like The Vikings in their first attackraid on England in Lindisfarne 793 AD. Before they actually started to consider invading and founding lines of Kings that ruled England for a long time.Thank you Kurben. I thought it was very interesting. I just watched an episode of Quantum Leap in which he goes back in time to October 31, 1964 - good episode - at the end Mrs. King picks up "Stevie" and Cujo is in the car.
It was called "The Boogieman". (Christine the Plymouth was also featured).
It was in another thread - that's why I went looking for it. (I think they said something about watching it would cause bad luck, so I hope that is wrong) I loved the endingI've seen that episode!
Someone should cook a very good meal for you!
....hiya kid!...long time no write.....I've seen that episode!
god I fell out of touch with technology, mostly office software. I don't know how to use it,, and I am also finding writing cover letters to be rather difficult. oh well it will get better I suppose. I am going to hop on the bus to go home from my job agency place and watch dr phill at home. todays quest sounds like a total nut job, she has a bunch of kids but does not like them or something stupid
