Starbux coffee is way too expensive, as far as I'm concerned. I believe it's success to be based on the idea that the common person can temporarily feel like royalty without having the entailed responsibilities.
Besides... the coffee doesn't taste like it should be worth $5-10...
For that much, there'd better be some hair-of-the-dog. Or at least some booze.

For that money, I can buy a whole box of Folger's coffee singles. That's honestly the best coffee I've ever had. Sounds strange but it's true.
And that doesn't include the tip.
I'd never bought myself a Starbucks beverage until last August. Someone else bought me a coffee from there once. After two tragedies within three weeks of each other, I decided life is way too short and I deserve to "splurge" every once in awhile. I couldn't justify spending that kind of money on myself before. I only go once in a while now-they are the only place I've found that offers organic soy milk-no GMO's, etc. It sure isn't something I can afford on a regular basis, but every now and then...I'm worth it! 
Nasty crappy burned tasting coffee (a friend that worked in one in FL said they DO purposely burn their coffee, to encourage people to up charge to frou-frou drinks)--lol. We have at least three that I can think of right near me, but two tries was enough for me. Our local shop has hella better coffee, and at a third the price (if I want to go out, but mostly I don't; I LIKE home coffee
)
