Logan's Run :) I spotted it for check out at the library the other day and snapped it up. Holds up fairly well, which is surprising. This cleared the way for Star Wars, for heaven's sake!

I also watched Blue Ruin on Netflix last night. I keep seeing it on lists of 'films you likely missed in 2014 and should see', and the lists were right. Very well done small film about a guy out for revenge who isn't good at revenge.

I'm going to try to get out to see The Babadook some time today--it's showing at the local art theater at 3 and 9 pm, so we'll see. If not today, maybe tomorrow :) Boyhood is on VUDU (nowhere else around here), so I'm going to try to watch that this weekend, too.

I guess I have to understand that. But American Beauty's my favorite Spacey performance. The story's direction is focused, not on a middle-aged man's obsession with a teenage girl, but on his own personal inner transformation, and I love how the movie accomplishes that.

Spacey is one of those actors who does it for me. Describing is difficult, though I assume with such actors come the qualities of intelligence, humor, nonconformity, and intensity, which are my favorite qualities in any artist.
Do you have Netflix? Have you watched the House of Cards series? Spacey is absolutely incredible.

Maleficent. Again, not amazing, but we were entertained well enough. Grandma was hesitant, because she figures I don't like Angelina Jolie, but it's just a case of not caring much for the movies I've seen her in (the Tomb Raider one, the assassin one, the Smith couple one). This one was a decent movie and a good role for her.

I couldn't help but look at some of the trollish critters in fantasyland, though, and think, "Muppets animated."

Own Logan's Run. I still love it.

"
Box: Regular storage procedure. The same as the other food. The other food stopped coming. And they started.

Logan 5: What other food?

Box: Fish, and plankton. And sea greens, and protein from the sea. It's all here, ready. Fresh as harvest day. Fish and sea greens, plankton and protein from the sea. And then it stopped coming. And they came instead. So I store them here. I'm ready. And you're ready. It's my job. To freeze you. Protein, plankton..."

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Not so much time for watching movies now, so it seems we are watching one movie per month. But thi movie is worthy. I just love Harry Potter, I think now I love it even more than when I was a child.

The Last Days On Mars (2013)

I like the combination of horror and sci-fi. Isolation is a big part of horror and there aren't many better ways to isolate characters than put them in space or on another planet. In this movie, a team of scientists are on Mars and discover a bacteria that causes them a lot of trouble. I liked this movie but I think the scientists in the movie are a little too dumb and careless to be believable scientists.

You really need to watch Girl, Interrupted to see why she snagged an Oscar. She's wonderful in that film. (Good film overall, too.)

American Sniper. A melancholy war flick that is tough to watch at times. But it's a darned good movie if you like that kind of movie, and in this case, my son and I did. We didn't think anyone in the family would, though, and after watching it, we stand by that assessment. We're telling them to stay home.

As a yardstick, I liked Saving Private Ryan better. The son liked this one better. But we liked them both. So if you like that kind of flick, it's worth a visit. If you're put off by the senselessness and human cost of war, and why shouldn't you be, you might want to skip it.

And on an unrelated note.

Oh, I have no complaints about her acting chops. It's just that I hadn't liked the particular movies I'd seen her in. But she always did a good job in them, I thought.

I'm with you on Angelina, Gramps. I just don't get what all the hype is for, you know. She's a decent actress but, come on, what has she done that's equal to Meryl Streep in Sophie's Choice? Seriously? I thought she was fantastic in that movie (Gia) where she played the model who contracted Aids, but other than that nothing stands out for me.

Does he shoot that kid? Was it the right call? (I won't go see it so you can tell me.)
