Okay. Now I need to get this short story. I read 2001 in hopes I would understand the movie better, but actually, the movie follows the book pretty good. There are parts of this movie I like very much, and parts I'm thinking, WTH. The short story might help me appreciate it all better.lol... I read 2001: a Space Odyssey and Clarke's short story The Sentinel (which was about the cavemen and the monolith) before the movie was released so I understood the movie... but I had to explain it to everyone who hadn't read the novel or SS
I was disappointed in the movie, I thought it was long and boring and I was already familiar with the classical music in the soundtrack so I didn't get the big deal about it either.

I was misremembering that, in terms of literature, The Sentinel is not the same thing as 2001: A Space Odyssey. Indeed I don't remember if I've read The Sentinel, though I think I have (is there not a preface or prologue which begins speaking to the fact that for every living human soul there are X-number of dead ones...).

I'm most disappointed in you, skimom.I can't stay awake in that movie. I've tried to watch it many times, but I always fall asleep. Melville's Billy Budd has the same effect on me, but in book form.

And I even liked Grand Canyon okay. i suffered through Sweet Home Alabama, though. My head was exploding with "I don't care!" by movie's end.
Breach. What I love about Chris Cooper is that despite having the face of the least possible candidate for Hollywood stardom he always delivers performances as powerful as possible. He's become one of my favorite actors despite my still not being attracted to his physical appearance at all.
Chris always delivers. He's great!
He is a wonderful actor, no matter the part.
I tried to re-watch this one during the October horror movie marathon - only made it about halfway through.
Brooklyn - small but touching love story of Irish immigrant to 1950s Brooklyn: Saoirse Ronan is (as usual) great;
Dirty Grandpa - DeNiro slumming it in exceedingly crude comedy: Aubrey Plaza manages to be crude, sexy and very funny, all at the same time.

Jurassic World.
Special effects were great (we have a 3d TV and I enjoyed watching the dinos eat each other), story was perfect for its target audience (young teens).

He (Chris Cooper) was just great in American Beauty. Heavy.
Just watched St. Vincent with Bill Murray and Melissa McCarthy.
I enjoyed it. Murray is always great, and it was good to see McCarthy in a more serious role.
The actor (Jaeden Lieberher) who played the young boy was very good also.
