I watched A History Of Violence with Viggo Mortensen. Ed Harris is in it as well as William Hurt. What an amazing movie! I always thought that Viggo would play a perfect Roland in the Dark Tower movie and this movie really shows that he can do it! But, then again, it showed me that Ed Harris could play Roland as well. Both of them show a 'hardness' that whoever plays Roland would have to have.

Watched "The Book Thief." A-.

I really don't have any criticism of it. It held my attention from beginning to end, and just no real complaints about any of it. And I saw it when I was bone-tired and ready to nod off when it started, and not once did I want to doze while it played (I only wish I could say the same about The Hobbit or The Wolf of Wall Street).

It wasn't a movie to jump and cheer about. Or to wring hands and sob over. Just a quiet tale, well told, gripping at times, uplifting and tragic other times, with characters you come to ache for, and leaves a nice resonance of a story in your skull when it's over. It won't be one that I'll buy to watch over again, but it sure was well worth the viewing time.

I tried three times to read that book, but I just couldn't get into it at all. Frustrating, because it's very much my usual 'type'. Maybe I'll try the movie and try to slip into the story sideways.

Good luck. It might be a good strategy. Honestly, that was me and LOTR. While I did get through the books a long time ago, I remember that the singing narration drove me nuts. I could understand why people would revere the books, but they just weren't quite my style. I know, heresy.

But the series of movies brought the world of Middle Earth alive for me. (Until The Hobbit, but I'm not going there.) I feel kinda ready to read the books again sometime. Maybe in retirement.

Oh man, I thought it was just me. I was not a big fan of the LOTR books. But, I listened to them on audio and I think what killed it for me was all the monotone singing the narrator did. Same tune for every damn song. And these characters were constantly singing: elves, hobbits, Gandalf, whitney houston....on and on and on. I thought I was going to lose my mind.

Watched Zodiac with Jake Gylenhal today for like the 5th full time. I love that movie although some parts of it can be troublesome if you believe in certain theories that the movie doesn't explore enough. Excellent movie though in my estimation as it really really caught the atmosphere of that time perfectly. The whole opening scene is one of the best I've ever witnessed, but also obviously tragic and hard to watch.

The Wolf Of Wall Street - Leo

This is probably the raunchiest movie (and funniest) the Martin Scorsese has done. Leo plays a stockbroker that figures a way to reap huge profits and rip people off with the penny stocks of the early 90s. He then uses those profits to have a really really good time. It's a Scorsese crime flick but just a very different kind than a mob crime flick. Do not watch if you are easily offended (or maybe even if your not so easily offended ;-D). You won't like any of the characters either. I loved it.

Not a fan of "The Wolf of Wallstreet." Seemed too derivative of "Boiler Room," "Wall Street," and "Boogie Nights." Some fun T and A, though. I started watching it with my Mom, and she soon asked to be wheeled to the other side of the manor.

But, still on Leo et. al. ~~ Yester I watched "Django Unchained." Very good. Cliched at some points, but what Western isn't? I haven't not enjoyed a Tarantino movie yet. I'll probably tape it on my archaic VHSumacheen.

I couldn't get past Mimi's husband (from The Drew Carey Show)
being the killer
:p I did like the opening scene and the actors (Mark Ruffalo), but got frustrated with the pacing. Then again, Fincher isn't one of my favorite directors.

@ SKMOM . . .I justed finished watching Bronson with Tom Hardy. Wow . . .good movie and there are parts that are really disturbing. Since this is based on the life of Michael Gordon Peterson, AKA Charles Bronson I can't help but feel that he didn't really get the help he needed/deserved. I'm not making excuses for his actions but it just seems as if they tried to tame him instead of help him. I also found myself liking this man. Tom Hardy really played the role.

Tom Hardy is now my favorite male actor.
You got me confused for a moment there. Charles Bronson! Surely you mean the actor that starred in many action, westerns and thrillers. but it turned out to be another charles Bronson. A much more creepy guy than the actor. But it was a natural mistake. The name in connection with movies and you think of the actor.

I think they could do way with the current ratings system and just classify the movies in two categories, "Watch With Your Mother" (WWYM) and "Don't Watch With Your Mother" (DWWYM). That would tell me everything I need to know. ;-D They could shorten the rating to just W and D.
