I got to see the updated The Beguiled, the original being my favorite Clint Eastwood movie.
This was absolutely horrible. They took a brilliant movie and destroyed it. Lots of big names in this, but I was seriously wounded and insulted by the remake.
This movie was set during the civil war, but the remake sanitized it for today's politically correct audience. While some like to debate that if we tear down statues of confederate nitwits, we should censor books and movies that cover the same topic (and other topics that are not acceptable in this day and age) -- these are not the same thing and this is NOT the place to debate that. Hot Topic for sure.
I will say, these things are very different and I felt the brutality of the time period that was in the first movie was totally lost in the second. The urgency and tension, gone. Along with some other questionable scenes regarding other hot button topics that made the first movie so good and commanded your attention.
A good movie challenges you and makes you feel something. Anger, disgust, happiness, love, caring, hate etc... This remake made me feel nothing but boredom.
