This is a horrible thing to do the employees and the families but it won't stop unless people stop going to the stores during these hours. I can't figure out who wants to shop on Thanksgiving day anyway.
We're so fortunate to have a holiday like Thanksgiving, where we can get together with family and friends and take stock of all our blessings. What a depressing, spiritually void way to spend such a special day-- fighting crowds and standing in lines at retail stores. It's the children of these shoppers I feel most sorry for (in addition to the employees who have to work). What family bonds are being strengthened or lasting memories being made at Kmart?
When I was a kid and got something for Christmas that needed batteries and didn't have any, I had to wait until the 26th because there was no place to buy batteries on Christmas day. There was nothing open on the big holidays back then.
Yet, you are still here with us, didn't die of impatience, didya?
No, but when I was 10 and needed a battery, it was hell waiting until the next day.
But then you were a child and it was hell waiting, but this present day madness of needing to shop
24/7/365 is out of control.
The pilgrims would have been too busy heating up water for a bath, tending the garden, tending the animals, cooking food from scratch, quilting by hand, Taking their children for a bath down by the river and beating them against the rocks. I bet work didn't stop for their Thanksgiving either.I am not sure when it became the trend to open on Thursday. Heavens, do the employees not deserve to spend time at home on Thanksgiving? What would the pilgrims say?
Actually, after giving this some thought, they probably would have said, "Maggie, ye get down to the olde village and bring me back a new shovel. Thy are on sale."I am not sure when it became the trend to open on Thursday. Heavens, do the employees not deserve to spend time at home on Thanksgiving? What would the pilgrims say?
When your 10, 15 minutes can seem like an eternity.
But I'm not 10 and I would like for all of these things to be closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas. My niece worked for Universal in Orlando and they would be open on Thanksgiving. How strange is that?
