Tomato soup would be just that, made with milk and crackers at my house.

A tomato bisque would add seasonings .
I've never heard of slumgullion but that's what I ate weekly growing up! I still make it for myself but I use ground turkey instead of beef and I mix water with the tomato soup instead of milk.

I think the very best way to eat tomato soup is with a gooey grilled cheese sandwich. (Too bad there's no salivating smiley to insert here...)

My mom made great slumgullion. I haven't had it since she died. I might give it a go.

I like tomatoe soup! How about you? When I was a young lad, my Mom would make it with milk instead of water. Which, thinking back on how poor we were, I don't understand because milk was way more expensive than water was. I will never forget being over at a friends house when they served tomatoe soup made with water instead of the milky way that I was used to. I thought it was the most awful thing I'd ever eaten, but I did eat it. Nowadays I like it made with water, sprinkled with some pepper on top and then I put saltine crackers in it. I know there are other varieties out there, such as rice and tomatoe soup. How do you like yours?
Same story here. Mom always made it with milk, perhaps knowing it was more nutritious. I like my tomato soup made with water these days, and I add ground pepper. (I put pepper on a lot of things.)

...Mom used the milk/Campbell's combo when I was a kid..my Gramma's stirred theirs up with water, so I had both gustatory delights....and my favorite after grilled cheese with it, would be toasted bread with a mix of chunky peanut butter and real bacon crumbles spread on it...

First, I must say that down where I grew up, it's 'mater or mata soup. No toes involved! lol

I prefer the water mix and a grilled ham and cheese sammich on the side. (Although that PB&B sounds pretty yummy too!) If my daughter is not going to be eating any of it, sometimes I will mix in a tablespoon of Texas Pete or Frank's Red Hot sauce! Yum!

Being Italian-American, our cooked tomato intake came only from "gravy" (that's a long-cooked tomato sauce for macaroni (pasta) to you uninitiated). Never had tomato soup as a kid. My husband loves Campbell's Tomato Bisque soup which I buy for him once in a while. It's not bad. I serve it with a grind or two of black pepper, some grated parmigianno cheese and a swirl of extra virgin olive oil to jazz it up. Hey, I'm Italian; what can I say?

I love tomato soup, but not canned (WAY too sweet). For soup for two, we start with a Tbsp or two of butter, saute a small garlic clove, add beef base and about 1/2 to 1 tsp sugar, then a can of crushed tomatoes. Let it simmer for a few, then add some dried basil/oregano (or both) and cracked black pepper, and simmer for a few minutes. Right at the end, we add between 1/4 and 1/2 C milk or cream and leave on heat just long enough to heat through (too long & the milk curdles).

Now I'm hungry for tomato soup and grilled cheese.

My mom always made her version of goulash with tomato soup. Like your mom, she used milk. It was easy-- just three ingredients mixed together: tomato soup, macaroni noodles, and browned ground beef. It was the best!
We had this a lot when growing up, but Mom always browned the meat with a bit of garlic salt and finely chopped up onions. (plus sometimes she would add some niblets corn with the macaroni and sauce).

After looking at the photo in your link, I really want some of this now! - it is SO good (like comfort food for me on a cold day).
