Yeah, blunthead, I was disappointed by the denial, but it was still cool because I liked that I at least received a response; also, I'm pretty sure he may have actually typed the letter because his initials in caps were at the bottom and there were no other initials in smaller-case (although it is still possible, maybe even probable, that this didn't mean anything and it was indeed typed by someone else; nevertheless, signature seemed to be definitely written and not stamped). These were the days when he could respond to correspondence personally. I actually also have two other responses, one a handwritten autograph on an index card. Those were neat times.

Growing up in Maine I had a few near misses as a kid. My Mom worked at the Bangor Mall and had me paged once when she knew I was in there because SK was in her store. Didn't hear the page though. Went to the Creepshow 2 premiere in Bangor where he did a little speech before the movie started. No meeting then either but still have the ticket! He used to let people Trick or Treat at his Bangor home but I never went. Don't know why. Stupidity. My mom dated a man that was friends with SK and he got me a signed book in 1988 but still, no meeting. Finally though this past November I was able to meet him not once, but twice so I'd have to say those are my favorite moments. Patience really is a virtue.

I was within a few feet of him at the Ghost Brothers premiere in Atlanta but he was surrounded by people as he was leaving the building's lobby and I felt it would've been awkward for me to stop him just to shake his hand. We looked at each other, though. I think he might've been unsure of me since he and Mellencamp had seen me hanging around after almost everyone else had left for a party.

You locked eyes from across the room! Doesn't it sound so romantic? =D Good moment Blunt.

I still feel badly I didn't introduce you. I'm sorry.

I had a feeling you might say that and I'm glad you posted your response. First, I didn't really know that you've felt that way or I'd never have posted this little story. Please try not to feel badly about it. I'll meet him one day when he'll be around at a book signing nearby.

Second, if I'd felt he wasn't already exceptionally busy I'd have stepped forward. But he seemed in a hurry to get where he was going, plus, due to my own hip issues, I sympathized with the idea that he might've been in pain after such a busy, demanding day, and might not have appreciated yet another fan slowing him down when he thought he might finally have a reprieve.

Third, I figured I might get a chance to meet him at the party, and maybe you were thinking that, too, so the idea of me not meeting him just then didn't seem all that important to either of us.

Fourth, I've said this before and I mean it: it would've been fine to meet him and shake his hand, but for me the great part of that night was meeting and talking to you, Marsha, a person so thoughtful that you walked me to the party, asked friendly questions, and made me feel totally at home with you. I'll never forget that part of the evening as long as I live.
