7 Quick Takes – because I missed you all so. Please update here too!

  1. I have rediscovered David Gilmore. The Ogre recorded his concert in Gdansk (you can youtube it) for me and I have to listen to those first 10 minutes every night. I’d forgotten how magically talented they are. I was reading a review online and someone said they must have been enlightened by Ancient Aliens :alien: - They were playing that music in 1972. Magic. Breathe….Breathe in the air…Don’t be afraid to care. My fish, Michael Fischer, likes them too.

  2. About Michael Fischer – I finally took Elly’s fish out of her room. I’d get him fixed up and then a couple days later find him gray again. I think because she has a window unit in her room (she’s got the room over the garage and the regular a/c just doesn’t cut it), she’s freezing him to death. He’s fine now that he lives in my room. I change the artwork behind his bowl regularly and talk to him often. I once worked with a landscape architect with that name – he was Australian and when he answered his phone, he would say: Miiii-kel FEE-SHA, and sounded just like a Wiggle. I smile every time I hear that in my head, and he was a pleasant and wickedly smart man. And so my fish’s name was born and I think he likes it. He gets very wiggly when I talk to him.

  3. Here is how it’s going at work: So many priests were moved. So many people have been let go, vicariates disassembled, schools closing. I had really thought our new bishop would just observe everything for a year and then make some decisions about change. He was installed on October 19th (!!!!). And has changed so much already. If you are a praying person, please pray for our priests. The laity is affected somewhat – but since the priests are bound to the Bishop by their Holy Orders, it’s been really hard on them.

  4. God bless you if you’re actually reading these – I’m just letting it all out. I’ve missed you all muchly (staropeace , I think of you every time I say this word).

  5. I’ve been thinking I’d like to be the girl who waters the flowers and plants at Lowes and Home Depot. I am happiest if I am barefooted outside watering my flowers and plants. I wonder if I could make a living at that. But I’m ready to retire anyway.

  6. I finally grilled a good steak – 3 actually. I had been closing the lid on the grill because I’m scared of the flames, but I braved it last night and made some really delicious steaks.

  7. I am reading 2003 Best American Non-Required Reading - if you’ve never read these, pick one up sometime – if you ever find it in a thrift store. They come out every year and they are the most random things – not always fiction, but can be and they are enlightening and entertaining always. They are articles, essays, et al. The one I read last night was The Pretenders by Chuck Klosterman – it was hysterical and you can read it from The New Yorker if you google (2002). Sundrop Sunny it made me think of you – references to Slash and Motley Crue. Read it if you can. So funny.
I'm happy to be back and hope to hear from you all! What have you been doing? Hopefully more exciting things than me!

Wow!.....You've sure been a busy bee!!! Hopefully all will settle and you'll be able to breathe a little easier soon.
I love your idea of the "Quick Takes".....here's mine.........

1. On Friday morning, my toilet decided to run continuously. Didn't have time to mess with it, so I turned off the water and went to work. I watched a Youtube video about toilet repair, decided that I could fix this all by myself, and bought the new part (fill valve or some such) and I was able to make the repair without incident or injury.

2. I turned 50 on the 4th. Grilled some burgers with my Mom and my daughter. Watched fireworks, and drank some most delicious wine.

3. My daughter turned 16 on the 5th. We grilled again....this time hot dogs at my Mom's (veggie dogs for daughter). We had seen a cake at Publix decorated like a hamburger that my daughter just squeed over, declaring it a "crabby patty"....so that's the cake she got for her birthday. I also painted her room and furniture.......well, it's almost all done, I still have the door and the trim to paint.

4. While painting my daughter's room, I broke the back off of a kitchen chair that I was using as a ladder.....yes, DiO, I know......
So I had to buy a new table and chairs set and put that together. It was time for new ones, anyway.

5. One of my brother's old friends dropped by the salon to visit. It was Mike.....he lived with us for a while when he and my brother were in high school. He's always called me "Sis"......it was a good visit, but both of us ended up in tears when he left.

Nothing terribly exciting here.

1. We went to our town's 4th of July parade, then the fireworks show that night. First time in a couple years we had a show, but just barely...the county put this year's fire ban in place on the 7th. Had a bbq in between the parade and fireworks.

2. Scott and the boys went camping. I stayed home with Ali. Had to babysit. Was looking forward to a mostly quiet day on Saturday, just me and Ali, but the boys came home Friday night.

3. Did a little reading, little tv watching. Got 3 ideas graphed for the bookmarks for the Kon. :)

1. Caught up on many posts on The SKMB.
2. Read The Yellow Wallpaper
3. Stayed with some very scared critters as the neighbors enjoyed celebrating the 4th with fireworks.
4. Did some knitting. Made a scarf, earwarmer set.
5. Did some needlepoint for the King Kon- bookmarks and fridge magnets.
6. Mowed the grass.
7. Missed you guys!!

As Meatloaf says... two out of three ain't bad. As long a no Sunny's were hurt or injured in the making of the DIY debacle. :)

(((Holly-girl))) That was an awesome update! What a great idea to catch us up!

1. Worked on the 1st (Saturday) so I could go to the beach.
2. My mom came up on Friday and spent the night with me. Family and dog were already at the beach. She and I headed down Saturday afternoon. It was a bittersweet visit. The 4th marked one year since we lost my dad. We spent a lot of time doing beach therapy, reminiscing about good times, and shedding a few tears, but she is doing better and we are all starting to heal.
3. Went ghost crabbing with my mom and daughter. If you don't know, this means to go out on the beach at dusk with a bucket and a flashlight and try and find little crabs running around and catch them. We got 13 and only pinched by one! No worries, we let them go and they scurried back to their holes, safe and sound!
4. I learned how to cook a good steak by pan-searing then broiling it, because we kept getting storms right around grilling time!
5. Read some funny Miss Fortune novels to keep my mood light. (Thanks to no bounce no play!)
6. Continued my tentative balance between work and life.
7. Missed the boards and all you fine folks on it!

I’ve been thinking I’d like to be the girl who waters the flowers and plants at Lowes and Home Depot.

I did this a couple of times at my part-time job when the College Watering Girl called off. I was bored silly after 2 hours of non-stop watering. The other week I felt bad for the College Watering Girl having to water for hours on end in extreme heat. So I ran out and got her these...

She thinks I’m a nice guy... How gullible people are! I said it was nothing more than a little payment from me for all the times I make fun of her... and I didn’t want to have to give her mouth to mouth if she passed out from the heat. She thanked me and then hit me. :)

My one daughter and her friend came back from a trip to Maui. Now the rest of the family wants a vacation. So I quickly put together a weeks vacation at the beach. I hate the beach! Got a condo as I would go crazy cooped up with the family in a room for that long. I plan on a couple of flounder fishing excursions, doing some work on the computer, dinning out, reading, and spending a lot of time at the beach bar and grill (drunken SKMB posting... Oh, yeah! :p)

If you like Gilmour, try The Orb's album Metallic Spheres, on which Gilmour plays. He also had a new solo album in 2015 called Rattle that Lock.

1. wednesday: got a lot of praise for coming up with a spacesaving idea for the archive. obviously that kind of ideas are worth their weight in gold in crammed archives.
2. Thursday: Had a fabolous dinner at a libanese restaurant. A kind of last hurrah before we all go our separate ways during the vacations. Great food! Had no idea about the variety. I ordered a menu with 12 different dishes plus three meatdishes. There were just three of us but we could hardly walk home because we were stuffed to burstingpoint with food. We cried about the leftovers. Had no idea that libanese red wine is that good!
3. Friday last day before my vacation started. It went slow but it went. Totally drop dead tired when i came home.
4. And it showed!! Saturday-Monday i have hardly done anything, not even read because i was so tired that whenever i tried i ended up in bed resting, sleeping, napping.
5. Except sunday night when i had an intense pain in my stomach. I had just seen Alien Covenant and i was positive for a moment that i had the next breed inside me but it turned out to be false alarm.
6. Today: I have ordered Gwendys Buttonbox through amazon after finding out that my usual reliable store in stockholm didn't bother to take it in. Sacrilege right! I also preordered Sleeping beuaties while i was at it.

I am as boring as they come!
Karen got her promotion this past week. She had to deal with the money last night. So whe had to go uptown to the library, and she stopped by the store to see how she did. Her boss said she did excellent! The money was right, and the store was closed properly. She is a smart cookie anyway about stuff like that. She has been there for 5 months, and already a supervisor. I'm proud of her.
I got all my bills paid off! Now I just have one credit card with a small credit line, and my loan payment. Yea me!

Sundrop How fun - a Krabbie Patty birthday cake! use a step ladder girl! This Sunday our oldest came over while the Ogre was working on the cars in the garage. He was dressed a bit odd - had some sort of headcloth on and was wearing gloves. Kaitlyn came in and said "Dad looks like a superhero from SpongeBob - like a cross between mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy". I am laughing right now at the image - but he did indeed. I thought he looked like a missing member of Loverboy, but she got it spot on.

cat in a bag and Spideyman I need to know about these Kon bookmarks. Are we sending goodies? I'd like to do that. I've mostly stayed out of the thread because it's not likely that I'll make it - so far, and my vacations are still mostly about my kids. Some day, though. Who knows what life will bring my way? Spideyman you read The Yellow Wallpaper! What did you think?

do1you9love? I love crabbing! I haven't done the night time hunting - but we take chicken parts and put them on a hook and drop them into the water - bayside - and catch little crabs. We just compete to see who can get the most and then dump them back in - they are bay side and totally not tasty (I would imagine - I've never tried). But it's so much fun - I could do that for hours.

DiO'Bolic I've been thinking that's a waffle up there all day (I'm at work). Only when I finally logged on did it get big enough for me to see its an ice tray. I'd prefer a waffle please! but very kind of you to take cool off supplies to the water sprayer girl. Have fun on your vacation. I could sit on a beach and read my entire life away. Forever.

Bev Vincent I will check that out! (I misspelled Gilmour).

Kurben Vacations already? Enjoy!! I lost many of my vacation hours this year due to all the changes - I can't carry them over (policy), but I couldn't desert my bosses - it was bad timing all around.

pegasus216 Yay Karen! And good for you the loan!

GNTLGNT Hi, you! You tall people get food babies, we squatty folks get it all about - wobbly all over.
