IF we dream every night, then my dream recollection is probably less than 5 percent. I'm sure I've recounted a few here, but I'll tell again. I remember a dream where I was an assassin - as in the assassin's creed games, but I was running along the rooftops with ellie from the last of us - a completely different game. When I was a kid I had a recurring nightmare that an ominous bird flew out of my headboard.

As for scary books, I never find kings books scary. Some of his stories are uncomfortable or disturbing, mostly pet sematary. There is one story that sent a chill down my spine and made me a bit anxious, and speaking of nightmares - it's the classic semi realistic urban legend type of nightmare scenario, alone in a secluded area miles from civilisation until
the devil shows up
The man in the black suit, from everything's eventual.

:canny:Have you ever heard of sleep paralysis? I have it all the time - or at least I used to until I learned some techniques to better navigate my dreams. Sleep paralysis is when you are dreaming that you are awake - quite literally it feels like you are awake - you can see and hear the normal ebb and flow of your room and bed, but you are not really awake. You cannot move or speak; usually this is accompanied by a feeling of extreme anxiety. You try to scream, but nothing comes out, you try to wiggle your arm, and it won't budge. That is the tip of the proverbial nightmare ice burg for me. I have had gruesome, gore and blood filled dreams of being murdered by monsters, having my children maimed in front of me, etc.- but now I have a trick to get out of those: 1. I somehow become cognizant of the dream itself and recognize it for what it is (not real, thank god!) 2. I fall or jump off of the nearest high place in the dream , or run headlong into a wall or tree. Somehow this works. It is counterintuitive to fall on purpose in a dream, but it will transition the dream into something better, eventually to that place right before awake. I'm sorry you asked yet?

1. Pet Semetary
2. Cujo
3. It
4. Desperation
5. The Dark Half
5. Needful Things
6. Thinner
7. The Tommyknockers
8. The Cell
9. The Dead Zone
10. The Shining (this should be more toward the top but it feels like an old friend):belial::ghost_002:

:cheerful::love_heart:P.S. Thank you for quoting Shakespeare!

I just woke up from a nightmare: an almost nightmare. . .We (specific names just faded, but there were two others with me) were waiting in an empty house surrounded by mud puddles. Rain hammered steadily at the windows and occasionally thunder cracked loud enough to make the walls shake. We were waiting apprehensively for him to arrive. We know him and we know that he'll be driving and old pickup (maybe a Chevy?) while we wait, I have to read everything I posted here last night! Just as I hear the approaching truck, my companion reassures me that it will be fine and the dream shifted. It was like a push-and I slowly came to. The thing is - it's really raining here-FINALLY!!-. This is an all day rain and the thunder is loud! Parts of the valley are already flooded.

Yes, I have had sleep paralysis that lasted several seconds after waking. It's happened to me many times and I don't think I've ever gotten used to it. Most times it is associated with nightmares but I have had moments where I woke thirsty and couldn't lift my glass of water, no strength in my hand or arm.
My reoccurring nightmares have to do with being on a coal mine train under ground (very poorly lit and claustrophobic) and I'm always disoriented with the underground network of tunnels. Sometimes these dreams are connected to George Stark (who I never see, but hear) as he says, "Welcome to Endsville, hoss." I've had several nightmares of The Dark Half and Pet Sematary and I guess that's my subconscious trying to deal with my fears.

Dreaming about being lost underground probably means that you are trying to face something unpleasant. The claustrophobic aspect makes me think that it's something you are close to, it gets under your skin. Do they occur when you are making a change or when change is inadvertently happening?
The other possibility is that this dream is a symbol of the maze or labyrinth. Negotiate it successfully by using math (or so I've heard). The maze can be enjoyed like a journey, as long as you don't panic.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who dreams about George Stark! Of course, it doesn't help that the back cover of the book always ends up near my pillow.

I have lucid dreams. Not sleep paralysis. I am aware I am dreaming but they feel very vivid and real. Not all the time, but when I am stressed. The worst one was I was running from a gang that didn't want my money and all I wanted was for them not to do anything to me in front of my son. I frequently dream about houses that aren't mine and seem to flow from one into another with no rhyme or reason.

One of my most vivid dreams that has stuck with me over the years...I was walking into a cemetery at night with video equipment. My friend was in front and I brought up the rear. There was a statue of Christ with his arms up, palms out, toward the heavens, looking up. Once my friend passed and I got closer the statue of Christ moved his arms down and out toward me and looked down at me with the most beneficial look of understanding and love that I have ever seen. I fell down on my knees and started crying and thinking "So it's true...it's true...!"...and that's all I remember. This probably happened in my late twenties/early thirties. I never took it as a sign or anything but I have always remembered that one.

Behind you
Two nights in a row now with the nightmares.

Night before last.

(as much as I can remember) Some guy is up on a telephone pole wearing a neon green chicken suit. Guess I do dream in color. I was a at a BBQ. I walked towards him and he climbed down, now totally naked, and ran by be.
Joined the party naked, nobody noticed and he gave me a bunch of newspaper clipping shredded like a ransom note puzzle and asked about our future together.

Last nite.

My sister. Another gathering. I was mad for some reason at her.
Now vivid. ohh so vivid.

She stands up. Wine glass in hand. Falls backward into China cabinet. Breaks the glass with her head and all glasses and china fall on her. Get out and cries for a second.

She stumbles and falls into something else. Water from somewhere douses her head. She gets out of that.. We are just watching.

Walks a few steps and falls flat on her face. It was horrible. Worst. She looks up and there is blood - lots of it, coming from nose, ears and mouth.

You asked for it, Doc Creed

I feel like I should call her, or something.

Hey Nadine, at least the Clipboard Lady wasn't in your dream making you clean up the broken glass. :)

Thanks a lot guys! I was going to say "I'll try to have one" last night before sleep. I wrote this first thing after I woke up from the most disturbing nightmare. I had forgotten to post.

We were characters in a book: maybe an incarnation of The Cantebury Tales? Lots of traveling through the woods caravan style.
I was both in it and reading it at various times, but this part was awful; I was there! (Rather than reading about it in the dream) A woman (for some reason I think she was pregnant) traveling with us was abducted by highwaymen. I was the only one who saw them take her, and my mind's eye saw what they did to her, vividly.
I was watching from the perspective of a fly on (wagon wheel?, for some reason it was a horse drawn wagon). From my perspective, pretty gruesome. The kidnappers had apparently impaled the woman before casually tossing her body over the side. She landed on her head, body tethered to the wagon, nearly naked. Her tattered nightie hung around her neck - it was light purple; it was white before, as I recall. Must be the blood.

Okay, here's a weird one. So, as many of you know, I recently smashed my face in a motorbike accident. Healing quite nicely, thanks, but my jaw is still numb, sometimes hurts if I move it wrong--same deal with my tongue (which I'd nearly bitten in half and had to have sown back together). Anyway, the other night, I dreamt I met strange, dark female, and we were soon 'making out'...until her kisses began to hurt! Like, she was trying to suck my chin off and eat my tongue! Creepy, right?

Then I wake up, and realize, oh damn, it was just my busted-up mouth hurting while I slept. Derf!

Okay, not really a nightmare...more like a potential wet dream that went horribly awry. Heh heh.
