wasn't there something on the air recently, man asking a daughter if she'd be satisfied playing with just one doll, the rest of her natural-born life, as in, papa's gotta brand new girlfriend, this is how it works.

I can't read more than one at a time, tried, didn't like it, don't see what others see in it. I'm faithful...ho ho ho!...to the story I start. No reading quirks I know about...nothing quirky here...read one word at a time. Took this speed-reading course way back when, helo-deck of the Hepburn, everyone in Ops...guy tested us before/after, my comprehension improved...not saying a lot, but that's the facts. Never have been interested in speed-reading since, although when pressed for time I'll pass over a newspaper to get to the comics, back page, where life is lived to the fullest.

Remember reading the cereal box as a kid, munching, munching, on Cheerios, not even watching the bowl, spoon dipping in, eyes reading, "riboflavin"..."articulated body parts"...munching, munching..."niacin"...the eyes taking in the numbers...percentages, trying to ignore how many box tops it takes to get that submarine pictured on the back.

I'm am too lazy to go upstairs. I have an upstairs book, a downstairs book and a book in the car. Right now: A Painted House, downstairs; 2013 Best American Short Stories, upstairs; and Pope Francis' new encyclical, Laudato Si in the car (I haven't started this one yet, but plan to tomorrow as I have to take a friend for a scary medical procedure - lots of waiting room time for me).

I like to eat sunflower seeds when I'm reading. My books are not tidy. But they're mine and until I die, they are not going to be sold or given away. My little treasures.

I too find homes without books to be sad - lacking something. And when I go to someone's house and I see books, I have to go check out the titles. If there's an interview on TV and there's a bookcase behind them, I can't pay attention to what they're saying because I'm trying to see what books are on the shelf. I'm book-obsessed.

I wish I wasn't such a slacker - I'd start a reading list. Maybe I should try a retroactive one. I know the first book I read for pleasure was Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret? when I was 8. When I am genuflecting, I say - "Hi God, it's me, Renee."

I'm a little jazzed up- mayhap too much Rocky Road ice cream for dinner?

I cannot read more then one book at a time. Unless you count the Dean Koontz book that I read a third of and then set aside when Finders Keepers hit the streets. I tried numerous audio books, but can't stay focused if I'm driving. I did listen to them once when I was painting the interior of a condo and enjoyed doing that.

I've never even entertained the idea of reading 2 books at one time, well... When I was losing motivation to read a dark tower book (either wastelands or wizard and glass) I did read the prologue for the stand but not with a view to reading it all at that time, just as a little teaser.

I can't read if there is any noise in the background, unless that noise is monotonous like a clock ticking (then it kind of helps).

One odd thing about my reading - I read mostly in bed lying on my right side, but if I try on my left it feels weird and I can't stay there.

I seem not to want to read at home. Without doubt this is due to the TV and internet. I will take a book to work with me if the case's demands allow me to read, or I'll take a book on vacation when I have a little more time to read (though I rarely read on vacation).

Well, I always try to carry a book with me everywhere. Even if I won't have any time at all to read depending on what I'm doing I just like having a book around. And it doesn't matter if it's in Kindle form or not. Just having a book nearby is reassuring. It makes me think that civilization is right around the corner. This helps especially when I'm at work dealing with numbskulls.

Not sure if this counts, but I always have subtitles on while watching TV. I'm not hearing impaired or anything like that, but I like seeing the words on the screen.

I've been reading less these days because I run a blog and have a bunch of streaming devices, but when I am reading my brain is in total shut off mode. My blog is more or less where I do reviews (of lots of different stuff), but I always try to keep it a bit personal rather than completely analytical. On there is a list of books I've read since I started blogging back in 2011. So it acts as my book journal, too. I used to have a long reading list of books I had read and in what order I read them during high school, but I lost that somewhere. Which is unfortunate because I read so many books during that time I don't remember the order any longer, but I try to keep up with what I read on my blog these days.

Not sure if these are strictly reading quirks, but they are book quirks for me.

I cannot read more than one book at a time. Finding time to read has been challenging enough, if I had to keep track of more than one set of characters, it would drive me loony tunes.

I used to be able to block out all other noise while reading, but not anymore. I think it is the Mom Spidey-sense, have to keep an ear out for what the munchkins are doing. I prefer silence now, but that is probably a Mom thing, too.

Guests in my home don't see books unless I take them down to my little library, but it is ALL books in there. :) I am quite proud of my little room.

I like the idea of a reading journal. :)

I can read up to 4-5 fiction books at a time. I have no problems keeping the separate storylines apart. They are mostly in different genres though. One crimenovel, one SF, one Horror and one "ordinary novel" can be ongoing. It is, i think, a mood thing. Sometimes you just don't feel like horror or SF so you read crime or a novel instead. Usually there are only two fiction at a time. Then i almost always has a factbook going in parallell. The factbook takes much more time than a fiction book to read. Probably because if it is any good i need some time to digest the fact and sort them, place them in the correct folder in my brain so i can find them later when i might need them.

I'm hopeless when it comes to eating and reading. I must read something if i'm eating alone. Not a book, i'm afraid that i'm gonna spill and ruin it so i buy a newspaper, read it while i eat and throw it away (or give it away) after the meal. Audio is also an impossibility for me. My brain won't cooperate with that. E-reader is possible but strictly good for travels so you don't have to take the whole library in your bags. Used to be a big problem for me.

I have 2 quirks, though one is self inflicted:

1) I always have several books going and a 'toilet book'. Best place to get some quality reading in. I tried a shower book but two kindles and 3 paperbacks later, I realised the world wasnt ready for a shower read.

2) I try and read one for fun and one to broaden my horizons. What I mean is that I have a lot of go to authors and books when I want to relax but I also know there are lots of awesome works out there I haven't tried. So I might read an S.K, followed by a DIckens, followed by a new horror book followed by Twilight (maybe not the last example).

I read much like Kurben: Lots of books, all the time :) I've tried one audiobook, Mr. King's Blood & Smoke, but I'm not a fan. I learn/remember better by reading or writing. Right now, I couldn't even tell you what that book was about, but because I was looking at it, I can describe the cover in great detail--lol. I was a late convert to the kindle, but it does have it's uses. I still can't imagine reading something complex on the reader, but for light stuff that I'm not going back and forth to make sure I remember, it works fine. Bonus discovered this year as LilMan takes swimming lessons: the non glare screen is better than a paper page in the sun!
