This thread is for movie fans who enjoy actors/actresses enough to celebrate when these artists' achievements are rewarded by whom many acknowledge the most capable experts in the field.

Which actors/actresses' performances which won Oscars are your favorites?

One of mine is Dustin Hoffman in Kramer vs. Kramer.

Not an actor or actress but, I was thrilled when Eric Roth won best adapted screenplay for Forrest Gump.

If you have read the book, it sucks. With a capital puke. Horrible book. Eric Roth made Forrest Gump the sweet and magical thing it became. At least I love it. The running part of the movie is where I had to suspend the most disbelief, but I just totally accepted everything else.

Speaking of Forrest Gump, Gary Sinise was totally ripped off that year. He should've won for best supporting actor but they gave the sympathy oscar that year. Not that Martin Landau didn't give a good performance, but Gary really deserved it.

Yes, not just actors and actresses in the thread.

I was looking at the Academy Awards official site database and looking at all the different categories, nominees, and winners, and I think I counted four times people involved in Stephen King movies being nominated for acting. The one that should have won was Tom Hanks in 2000. I think he should have got it instead of Crowe in Gladiator. The Green Mile is a far better movie than Gladiator. I think Piper Laurie was nominated for best supporting actress for Carrie, but I don't know who got it. I forgot, Kathy Bates won it for 1990. So that makes five. Maybe there was more?

Sometimes I'm sure someone was nominated or won when they weren't, but I think you're correct about Piper Laurie. I'd enjoy seeing a list of Stephen King movies and performances which have received Oscar nominations, but I have no energy right now to google it. I know Shawshank received a nomination for Best Picture, and I think Robbins and Freeman both were nominated. I think The Green Mile was nominated for Best Picture. The Shining might have been nominated for Best Visual Effects and/or Best Direction. I should look these up, I guess.

I can't remember seeing anything about The Shining for nominations for acting. I think around that time the film Ordinary People scooped everything. Freeman was nominated for best supporting actor for Shawshank. But as far as I could see Bates is the only one to have won an acting award in a King movie.
