My first thought was that I feel sorry for his tiny, shriveled soul, and I still stand by that somewhat (largely because he went there deliberately to throw a monkey wrench into the works). I do think he had a valid point, though: when the barista asked him to do it, it was no longer an act of generosity but of expectation.

I don't have anything to do with Starbucks (their coffee tastes burned to me), so I doubt I'd be put to the test, but I might be a bit prickly if it was just expected that I continue a streak BECAUSE it's a streak. I'm ornery sometimes. I've been both giver and receiver at my local GOOD coffee shop (lol), and it's a beautiful thing when it's spontaneous.

He's a douche because:...to actually get in your car to put a stop to something is crappy.

Yes.

He's not a douche because:...nothing that kills my generosity of spirit more than an expectation that I'll be generous. I want to feel like it's my idea.

Same here.

I (politely) asked, "A donation for....?" She said, "I don't know. They told us to ask, but I don't know what it's for." So I said, "No, thank you."

I'd have done the same thing. Transparency, please. If you can't identify the cause or the person to whom I'm making a donation, then all bets are off.

Yes.

It does to me as well. I don't dig Starbucks unless it's the Three-Mile-High-Mocha-Frappucino-Grande-Black-Orchid-Frosted-Angelfood-German-Chocolate-Cake-Iced-Blitz-Snowstorm-With-Whipped-Cream gutbuster drink. And p.s. - they haven't been able to identify their pet charity, either, at the times I've been dragged there by friends.
