People who label anything with nudity or sexual situations PORN. Let me give you an example:

Cat A posts that he liked the movie Wolf Of Wallstreet. BLAM, a couple posts later somebody blasts said movie as PORN, thus, anyone reading the thread and who hasn't seen the flick will automatically assume cat A is some greasy little pervert who wants everyone to know how freaky they are. You see my dilemma here?

It's even worse when it's a book. You post that you liked, oh, let's say Ellis's AMERICAN PSYCHO (the novel, now, not that Christian Bale nonsense), and of course, somebody has to show how righteous they are by labeling the book as violent, disgusting PORN, and OH, I'd NEVER read that stuff cause I don't like violence toward women--implying that you do.

I watch a lot of R rated flicks (at forty-one, I think I'm old enough), read a lot of books that contain 'erotic situations', but I don't watch or read PORN. God, sometimes it seems like the literary and cinematic revolution of the sixties NEVER HAPPENED. Let's bring back the Hays Office, the Comics Code, let's ban Howl and Tropic of Cancer again. Let's burn our books and movies and conform to the sanitary, politically correct HIVE MENTALITY overtaking the civilized world.

Whew, rant over. Feel better all ready.
For what it's worth, I have not seen Wolf of Wallstreet, but didn't assume you were a pervert for watching what others view as porn. After reading your many posts here, I think it's pretty clear you are a cool cat.

I loved American Psycho, but don't like violence toward women either. One can watch and read all kinds of stuff and not necessarily condone it. Take the Bible, for instance. :)

Even if you did watch and read porn, I wouldn't give a hoot. Some people are comfortable with it, some not. Those are personal choices which are none of my business. :)

Whoa dude. Step off. I was joking with you. And, I have a right to my opinion of something anyway. Sorry you took what I said and made it Gestapo worthy. So, everyone go watch Wolf and tell Muskrat that it is not porno so he can feel better. Thanks. Rant over.

Heh heh.

Just a little pet peeve of mine, is all I'm saying. No big deal. Just stating my opinion on the matter is all. Not trying to growl at anyone.

One of my biggest peeves (actually it's more than a peeve) is short bus jokes. Even before I became a parent I hated them. But now that I have a child who sometimes rides the IU bus, I hear someone making a joke about that and oh I want to kick them in the teeth.
I save the word "retard" for another vent.

What is a "short bus"?

  1. ride the short bus. (US, idiomatic, education) To participate in a special education program, such as for those with learning disabilities. (US, idiomatic, pejorative) To have a need for a special education program, as though one were learning disabled. A derrogatory phrase derived from the smaller school bus used to ferry special education students to and from school

It's a derogatory term for the bus that disabled kids take to school. It's not as long as a standard school bus, hence the name.

(Sorry, Spidey, we posted at the same time :))
Oh I understand... and people make fun of this?
I'm sorry they do...

Yes, but the jerks that do it say they don't mean anything by it. For instance, once my husband's boss was complaining his mail delivery was slow. And he made a joke that "I think it's delivered by short bus." When my husband called him on it, he defended himself by saying he wasn't talking about disabled kids, he was talking about his mail carrier. He didn't see that it's hurtful either way.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.
Why can't people just apologize when they realize they've messed up?

I see... I do understand people saying things out of ignorance sometimes. I used to use a term in a derogatory manner to depict being annoyed at people that were consciously making bad/damaging decisions... but, I was wrong to use it and didn't realise that I was hurting a whole group of people by using it. I was (rightly) called on it.. and haven't used it since.

It's never too late to learn and modify your behaviour.
