;-D I wasn't campaigning for it but Steve already said (when he told me where it would be filming) that he wouldn't be doing a set visit for this one. It would be an incredible opportunity, though. Hmmmm....maybe he'd like to send his PA there as his representative. :hmm:

There's no one else he could trust more than you...well maybe other than Out of Order but we'll save that discussion for another thread! :wink2: Seriously though, this is one time I really need to question SK's sanity...he doesn't want to visit the set in SA?? Yes the journey is long but the resulting destination justifies that. I sincerely hope he changes his mind and takes you with him.

It's a testament to just how much he dislikes traveling. :smile2:

Wilmington DE, strange little place.
I tried to watch Under The Dome, I tried to like it, I WANTED to like it, but I couldn't, I watch the whole first season and ...nothing, I couldn't enjoy it, I'm sure if I hadn't read the book the TV would have been great, but it was not to be.

Recently; I decide that I would not watch the gunslinger movies/TV, I would'nt even bother with it. I knew I was gonna hate it, so I would just ignore it all together, (I currently take this attitude with the musical "Wicked")
I can not "get passed" the idea of a black-British-older-sexy Roland dude.
Now I'm not any kind of racist, not at all, I dont care one iota about any black-Jewish Homosexuals whatever. I dont care about transsexual-Zionist Jordanians-Vulcan-Bruce-Katlyn-whatcha ma'Jiggs ....I COULDN'T CARE LESS.
But Roland ...isn't black or British or 'too old' and he wasn't that "sexy" .Idris whatevername was a bad choice and moreover its just plain Fracken SILLY.

I knee jerk reaction was to ignore the whole thing. But I have changed my mind. I will watch it a Few times, or maybe for a whole TV season, as I did with UtD, and maybe I will like it, Him, the series/movies.

I have nothing to lose. -
but ...THEY BETTER get Drew Barrymore to play the roll of Alley from Tull !!!

He mentions Clint Eastwood himself in the "On Being Nineteen" essay and elsewhere.
He also talked about that in the EW interview for which you kindly provided a link :) Mr. King said that Roland started out in his mind looking like Clint Eastwood, largely because he loved spaghetti westerns, but by the time he'd gone through a couple of books Roland looked like no one but Roland--he'd taken on his own individual life and appearance.

Me, too. If I had the funds and a little more time, I'd be traveling the world.

Would you like me to start a petition for SK to send you to South Africa as his official representative? That could possibly give some fans hope this will be a DT adaptation in more than just name. :umm: Not me though, I am strictly anti-DT movie from now until forever. Idris Elba...meh! :facepalm_smiley:

That's where the "elsewhere" came in. I was trying to tie it into the books themselves, too, to perhaps explain why that image would be in the reader's mind for so long. :smile2:

Much appreciated but would be as much an exercise in futility (on both counts probably) as the petition to not cast Idris Elba.

Oh, okay. I have to reread. And I don't know whence my mind's eye of him looking like Clint Eastwood per spaghetti westerns, though I definitely know others have as well.

My minds eye is heavily influenced by THE ILLUSTATIONS included in every book. Especially Michael Whelan's stuff. Kinda makes it cut and dry what the Gunslinger looks like.

The illustrations carry a lot of weight, too--you can't help but look at them :) All Mr. King specifically mentions is that Roland has black hair ("Like a raven's wing") and bright blue eyes. Each illustrator did different things, though. DoTT Roland looks like Michael Fassbender (even to a reddish beard stubble in one picture), while the Roland in the later books is more beefy and Josh Brolin-ish (with blue eyes). Meh. It really doesn't matter to me.

Great minds think alike--lol. Still, each illustrator had his (or her--no idea who did any of them) own ideas. The books themselves aren't that specific: dark hair, blue eyes, tall & lean, and Eddie refers to him as 'ugly'. Not so sure how seriously to take that, but I imagined a guy who looks like he's been rode hard and put away wet (as my mother would say :D).
