Colorado

Pfui on them. Of course, I'm biased, and I only looked at one. Colorado has the red, white, and blue for the US, the C for Colorado, and the yellow sun. What more would they need? They could have mountains, but that would muck up the simplicity. I enjoy our flag.

So here's my little exposition. REO Speedwagon had their roots in Central Illinois. So did I. They wrote their song "Riding the Storm Out" in Colorado during a winter storm. I understand it. When they did their video for it, it was at Red Rocks outside of Denver, a wonderful amphitheater. And I understand their attraction to the place and why they did that there.

During the course of that video, some of the people in the audience at Red Rocks hoisted that distinctive Colorado flag. It was poignant in a way that some people will get, some will not, but if you get it, it just hits.

Yeah, I like the Colorado flag.

And the the flag of my city, Stockholm

That person is supposed to be Saint Erik, patron of Stockholm, (not much of a saint really, lived a ruthless life filled with powerstruggles and died a violent death but for some reason he was worshipped after his death as a symbol. Lived during the 12,th century.

We were in Italy a few years ago and visited Siena. That city is known for a wild (and, in my opinion, a bit unnecessarily cruel) horse-race through the main piazza each year known as the Palio. The competitors each represent one of the city's contrade, or districts, which have their own separate flag and animals. The flags and colours are quite wonderful. We weren't there for the race, but each neighbourhood is VERY prominently flagged. Contrade of Siena - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

One of the best descriptions of the Palio I've ever read is in a book called Juliet--whatever the failings of the 'modern' section of the book, the part that was from the original story that Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet is based upon was fantastic!
