In Ireland a lot of people grew up without central heating. It was probably uncomfortable, but that's just the way it was. Almost no one has air conditioning, it doesn't get that hot. Personally I'm a great believer in putting on another sweater before turning on the heating. My husband is a lizard and I'm a mammal. Our son likes being cold, so it can get awkward. But we manage. The damp weather can make a huge difference in comfort.

Do you guys still have the coal fires in the fireplaces? I thought that was the greatest thing when I went over to visit Andy in April of 2005 - I loved it!
