Right at the end of the video, Obama is walking around greeting people. Is the last person he hugs Tabby?
They've edited that part out of the video they have up now but I don't think so--could be wrong, though. I watched it all the way through when it was live yesterday and no one he was meeting made me think she was one of those shown and I was trying to pay extra attention to see if she was. She and Steve did get their picture taken with President and Michelle Obama, though.

I'd thought it looked a little like her too, but the person he hugged at the end (of the first video) he actually stepped around several people to get to... there was definite recognition on his face of somebody he has perhaps met before... was this their first meeting?

When I click on Bev's link it takes me to today's White House events page instead and the full video is no longer available so can't go back to check. It was their first meeting so unlikely to get that sort of response. I remember seeing the person you're referring to and thinking it was not Tabby.

I must have just caught the video before they changed it... that's what I'd thought too when I saw the way he was looking... surely not if it's a first meeting.

...my usual wisecracking aside, I was as proud as a parent watching Steve accept this notable recognition....with every success comes a reminder to me, of how far he has come from his dirtyard roots, and how he has remained "one of us" throughout....as a nurse though, I still fret over how frail he appears...I know that his accident would leave lingering problems with his skeletal systems and muscles, still I can't help but worry...neither he nor I are kids anymore, but despite the gauntness I hope his overall health is well....

I've just finished watching it now... aww, that was incredible and so emotional, it just felt like that was our boy up there, so proud!
And President Obama was so charismatic... it was a pleasure to watch. Thanks for the link Bev Vincent and thanks to the folks that alerted us to scrolling through, I was sure at first that I had missed out.
Exactly how I felt, too! He really is our boy, ain't he? Those of us who have been reading him for years feel that he is our discovery.

Ya know Moderator, Ms. Mod . . .I'd really like to hear in Stephen's words what it felt like to receive that medal. Also, ask him if he thought about biting that medal at the end of the ceremony when the camera caught a frame of him flipping it over to look at the backside --I swear I thought he was going to bite it! I know I wouldn't have!

I'd like to see his personal photos of the medal up close and hear just how he felt . . .I am so happy for him.

He looked good too!

Maybe next week after the dust has settled a little, he'll share more of that. He may talk about it on Colbert tonight, too. :smile2:

I love Colbert, but I wasn't impressed at all with the first show. Hopefully he's just getting his sea legs.

I really think he'll get better. I wasn't impressed with the Oreos gluttony skit in his first show, but I did like the musical ending and was happy Mavis Staple didn't get to lead. I love Mavis Staples but good gawd . . .she ain't really got it no mo' when it comes to singing.
