Wow, I watched it live earlier, I missed my boxing training just for the occasion and went to get a bottle of wine instead, it was great. I've got a mate staying with me at the moment and she couldn't believe how excited I could be just to see a medal ceremony :)
Thats the price we pay for being what we are. People don't understand us!

 Some people just do not understand the greatness of Stephen King and this most wonderful achievement.

Maybe if you give your friend some wine and show her the ceremony again... she will show more appreciation.

Well, in some way she did appreciate, she said it was lovely to see all these old people smiling and getting medals and she thought that woman with the pocahontas hair style was so cute. But really all the wine in the world couldn't get her to really " get it " I think. She'd need to be a constant reader I think :)

Well, I have to admit that it did bring tears to my eyes- two of my favorite authors were up on that stage with the POTUS! For them all to come from such humble beginnings and to see what they all have achieved with their lives is amazing! I didn't realize that Annie Dillard and Larry McMurtry were also recipients of this award. Just an amazing day for all of them!!

I think Obama mispronounced McMurtry's last name. I think he was calling him McMurty. I may be wrong, my hearing isn't so good sometimes.

I saw Stephen King yesterday on Gas Station TV. ;-D The gas station by my house has monitors built into the pump dispensers that play a channel called Gas Station TV and there was a story on SK getting this medal. It was an interview with him but there was so much traffic noise, I couldn't hear much. So, somebody get a message to Stephen and tell him he's really made it now. He's been on Gas Station TV, there's nothing left to accomplish.

I've just finished watching it now... aww, that was incredible and so emotional, it just felt like that was our boy up there, so proud!
And President Obama was so charismatic... it was a pleasure to watch. Thanks for the link Bev Vincent and thanks to the folks that alerted us to scrolling through, I was sure at first that I had missed out.
