I played soccer, and when you're sprinting to get into position or chase down an offender, your mouth is open, you're panting, and you catch one. You can either stop and retch on the field, or swallow and keep going. I always chose the latter.

Bugs may be an important answer to global nutrition. Insects: Nutritious, but Delicious? / Nutrition
Yes. I've accidentally eaten my share of flying insects. I ride a motorcycle, remember? =D

I had the same reaction to Salmon loaf. I believe taste buds mature over time, and that that is the reason kids hate to eat certain things. I love now some things I despised as a kid, such as Lima beans, Brussel Sprouts, salmon and other fish dishes. I was taught in anatomy that a baby's taste buds are immature at birth except for the ones which detect sweetness, which are fully mature; reason being that the human nervous system has lots and lots of growing to do and the only nutrient it ever uses is glucose. So, the infant needs to be able appreciate and crave sweetness in foods.
I still am not a fan of lima beans and brussel sprouts! My taste buds must have stopped growing.

There's nowt wrong with Branston Pickle! And Picallili is yum too!
Eeeeewww. I would rather eat a jar of branston pickle than a spoonful of piccallili. That said, I'd rather stick needles in my eyes than do either.

They say the first bite is taken with the eyes. So anyone who doesn't know what piccallili is, it's pickled cauliflower, broccoli and all the other vegetables that nobody likes, in a mustard sauce.

Bon appetite.

I love tomatoes. I'll eat a fresh-grown tomato (a real fresh-grown, not plastic tomatoes from a store) with more gusto than an apple, and I like apples. I put stewed tomatoes or freshly cubed tomatoes in lots of food. Yummy.

When I was twentyish, I was on the subway heading home from work and a man who was 50-60 was carrying a basket of tomatos. He lifted one out and took a big bite. He noticed me staring at him and grumpily said "it's just like eating an apple. Nothin wrong with it" I laughed and told him the only other person I saw eat a tomato like that was my dad.
