Daughter got married today. Nothing changes - she and her guy were living together, and kids were blended. He's a good guy. The only real difference is now they qualify for a much higher-priced house.

In a charming move, they're both going to change their names to her and his family names, hyphenated.
Happy news! Thank you for sharing that.

I apologize if this isn't where this goes. I am not on this new forum enough to know how to create a thread. One of our local teachers is in trouble for showing Children of the Corn and Hush. ( I believe that hush has way more violence) I don't think that these movies are so over the top inappropriate that the teacher should be fired. ( heck my 9th grader just watched Forest Gump. That has some adult themes in it too) Do you think this teacher should be fired/disciplined?

I can move this to a new thread--just let me know what you want to use as the title.

The button for starting a new thread is at the far right side of the page in each forum area. Here's a pic of what it looks like in Chattery Teeth (the red arrow and circle are just to highlight it)

The teacher either willingly or unknowingly disregarded policy so someone at some point should accept responsibility for the error. That note at the bottom, paraphrased, 'the district condemns showing R-rated...' Heh! Their verb use. Hit the i-Condemn button on the smart-phone. It's all over Twitter, right? Facebook? Going virile? But, I dunno...what does the teacher union contract state? Fired? ummm, probably not. Use the event as a teaching/learning experience, use to look at the policy. There's violence in the Bible, but I suspect people would not object to the violence, but to the message. I'm sure there are capable people who can take care of the situation.

Done for the day, sort-of. I got some money 'cause I just got paid. :) Course, there's three still owe some...one from last October, one from January, and one from this past weekend, that duck coop I built. My youngest customer blew me a kiss...she's two months shy of two. They went to the beach, pick rocks, gorgeous day here, 70s. Might go out and till the garden later, put in some onion sets.

Showed to sixth-graders? Hmmmmmmm I think she's going to be fired for that. I wonder if she informed the parents first?

I would like more details regarding the incident. Was this in the teacher's plan book? If so, why wasn't the school officials aware that the movies would be shown? What is the policy of the school regarding movies-- do parents get notified before hand? Finally, why were these two movies chosen by the teacher--- part of a lesson plan? Something is missing.

I am not sure. The movie Hush that I recently watched is on Netflix. (which is the one I was thinking of) It is about a deaf girl who is under attack by an masked assailant. It is pretty violent. Children of the Corn is tame in comparison.

The 2008 Hush sounds (in part at least) similar to Children of the Corn.

It probably is this one. I agree it was an error in judgement. I just think that these days there are far worse offenses that teachers have committed. This to me is a forgivable offense and not worth losing your job over. I know that when these school districts show a movie they do not ask for permission they just show it.
