I am little concerned regarding the athletes going to Rio. They were discussing on the news today that Off is going to be an official sponsor, due to Zika virus. They also said that there was an abundant amount of fecal matter in the water that the athletes will be swimming. The most concern there is vicious virus that is resistant to antibiotics in the water. The bicycle track that they built a huge wave came and crashed the track. I sure hope that all comes back safely.

Oh, I almost forgot to add that the country is broke. They do not even have enough money to put gasoline in patrol cars or provide toilet paper to the police/fireman.

It's funny how they were able to afford not just these games, but to build several large stadiums for the FIFA World Cup in 2014, though.
It's not even as if it was these events that broke the bank for them anyway; they were already skint. Makes you scratch your head where it doesn't itch.

Suffice it to say, though, that if I were an athlete/sportsman there's no way I'd be hopping on a plane to Rio and I wouldn't care how special the IOC thinks the Games are.

Usually, countries know so far in advance that the games will be held there, so they pour money into Olympic Village and competition facilities. The thinking is that the games will bring an influx of money from the rest of the world. So they have to at least make it look good. They spend money on the games that could/should be used on other things. Like fire alarms and toilet paper.

I only hope that all the swimming is done in pools that have been properly chlorinated.

I fear for the future of the games. It seems that there's less and less interest in these things. If nobody watches anymore, they'll stop having them.
