Yeah, ratings here have been dropping by the week. Still highly rated for cable, don't get me wrong, but dropping. If they pull the cliffhanger, I think the show is over in a season. And I agree with you r.e. Carol: it's not how she's changed (Weak Carol, Super Carol, Tricky Carol, Breakdown Carol) but that there is no development time for any of it. Slipshod writing annoys me.

Given that scenario, I think you're right. Making a key character death into a cliffhanger will be the 'jump the shark' moment. Thing is, I don't think it's got the momentum to make it anymore.
The thing that annoys me (or perhaps better, frustrates me) with the show is that, as Doc Creed says, they do have some good writers. That much has been proven in certain eps even this season. The problem for me is a lack of consistency in it generally - it's like for every good writer's ep they hand the scripts for the next couple over to interns or, if I'm being very harsh, chimps - to the point where I'm really more inclined to blame the producers. I dunno, maybe it's a case of too many cooks, or perhaps they've had too many showrunners so that you have fractures instead of completeness. Either way I can see why people are losing interest. Instead of being 'must see' TV it seems now to be bumbling on feeling just a bit too pleased with itself, and as with all/most things complacency is the worst enemy of all.
I also think that, maybe, they are a bit too hog-tied to the comic books sometimes, like one eye is always on a scene as a 'must have' rather than thinking 'how do we take this scene or this character and turn it from good for a comic book into good for TV?' 'Cos, you know, different media need different approaches and all. Like the blood spatter. Doing a frame in a comic book...yeah, that's effective. It adds immediacy. It's a good decision. The same thing on TV, as though the comic book is really the storyboard? Nope. Didn't work. It had the opposite effect. It broke suspension of disbelief rather than adding to it.
The same will be true if we actually see Negan cave someone's face in. It'd be a step too far even for me, and even for this show of all shows. What would be 'merely' shocking in the comic book version would likely be vomit-inducing on TV. And audiences like to be anxious and/or scared, they do not like to be puking up their supper out of pure disgust or traumatised.
Oh, and the spatter scene also didn't work because it couldn't have happened naturally (had the actor really been shot :biggrin2:). Blood and gore tends to travel in the direction of fire. That means the angles were all wrong to get that degree of splash. No doubt someone thought they were being clever, but that particular simple trick turned into a nonsense.

Eleven minutes? So he's going to keep rattling on either side of two ad breaks? :icon_eek:

Bad-ass he may be, but it'll be:
Negan: waffle waffle threat rattle blah, waffle waffle threat threat waffle blah
Me: FFS! Yeah, keep talking, mate. I could do with a kip.
(And there I was thinking The Talking Dead came after the show...)

HAHA! I was just talking about that with my daughter. In the same position as most heroes or villains, I would not choose to monologue; I'd just shoot them (or whatever). No need for backstory or motivation. In this case, I guess he's trying to be more scary than deadly--he does point out that he doesn't want them dead, he wants them serving him. It is funny, though :)

I hope everybody realizes that we will not know who dies until next season. Most likely, we'll see
Neegan swinging his bat, hear horrified reactions, and then that's it until they come back in the fall. I'm fully prepared to not know who it is until next October. Or whenever it comes back.
Glenn was only under the dumpster for a couple of weeks and people lost their minds. How will people react not knowing who dies for MONTHS?

It it's Daryl who dies I won't like it. Now or in October. You don't mess with The Daryl.
I agree. I'm all for shock value. But there are things a show producer just doesn't do if they want to continue to have a show.
Who shor JR was cute back in the day, but he lived, and he wasn't Daryl Dixon.
When they play to "kill Daryl and we riot" to boost ratings, I'm outta there.

This is a picture Norman Reedus posted on Instagram. HUGE spoiler potential, so beware.
And it's a HUGE picture, so be prepared for that, too.
And it's, well, potentially, uh, personal. So prepare for that, too.

A lot of people are speculating that this has something to do with Maggie, considering her condition. But if you look closely, it looks like it's an anatomically correct male dummy. I think this might be the body cast of whoever gets his head bashed in tonight. Or it could be an extremely gruesome walker dummy and be completely unrelated. Any guesses?

I think it's an altogether new type of zombie: "lying on your back, don't give a heck, Terminator shades, holes in both cheeks, ready to pass gas hell of a zombie."
