Our fuel bills here in Blighty have shot up over the last 2 or 3 years. It's a real worry. Last year I actually rationed the heating. I never used to do that. And we have as many real fires as we can as we had a tree chopped down by our garage. Pensioners over here are frightened to put their heating on because they can't afford it. Really.

We rationed ours a couple of years ago. The bills actually seemed to go up. Last year I left the heating on a constant setting, but turned the thermostat down to 18C (from the previous year's 20C). The place was warmer but the bills were less (despite the annual 7-10% hike).
This year, it's been mild in my part of the Mudlands (sic - it was a proper typo, but it's suitable and made me laugh, so I left it). Not much heating required.

NEESY! Propositioning married men again? ;)

WHAT? I think he is divorced?? Plus I said "tea and crumpets" not sex :O_O:

Besides, maybe I could get my vacationing hubby to get off his keister and make us all a gourmet meal.

I am tired of being his Mamma (the guy IS a chef for heaven's sake!)

ohoh - sounds like it's time to go out for dinner. I think tonight I will make reservations, not supper

HAHA! You could very well be right--I don't follow celebrities' personal lives too closely :)

My BH was a chef for many years! He still loves to cook, and I've learned a lot from him. Benefit: he does most of the cooking on weekends he's home. Downfall: he's incredibly messy (used to having sous chefs to clean up after him--lol), and he's always poking into what I'm cooking and making 'suggestions' about things I'm completely competent at preparing (HIGHLY irritating).

Maybe his philosophy is that being a chef is his job and he's on vacation so doesn't want to have to do that. I know when I'm on vacation, I don't want to have to be doing what I usually do for the day job. And I sure do appreciate having someone else cook for me. But maybe he's not seeing your side of it that you'd like a little break, too, as you have to cook when he's not there.

Exactly - he IS on vacation, plus up North it seems like he works 24/7. I asked him to make a list of what he wants and then I will buy the groceries and make it. He is very very picky about his food, so I am getting a bit frustrated.

He goes back up to Baker Lake in two weeks, so by then I hope he is feeling better. He is not in the best of health due to cancer and surgery etc. (or maybe it is just his natural "dour" disposition, being a stubborn Scotsman!)
Thanks for your comments, Marsha. I will try to be more patient :encouragement::m_pan:

Wood standard will be replacing the Gold Standard if warmer weather does not get here soon. I heat my home with Propane. 900 dollars to fill in October and already had to fill it again.
If we build a wall on the Canadian border to keep all the illegal immigrants out who are flooding across our border, will it keep the North Winds from blowing down here also? Just a thought. Some things in that statement may not be accurate, just sayin.

A friend of ours has been out of work since cutting off half of his right hand in an accident a couple of years ago. The family came over to visit around Christmas. With their limited income he told me he was worried about this winter and heating the house because the Farmer’s Almanac was predicting a really cold one. Although they have oil heat he prefers to use his wood burning stove. He talked about how he was almost out of wood and his resources to cut wood had all dried up. I told him I had property that had lots of laying down timber from hurricane Sandy that was just going to waste including a good amount of black walnut. I gave him the combination to the lock to get onto the property road and said to help himself to anything laying down, as it was already seasoned a year since Sandy and ready to burn, but not to touch anything standing. About a week later he came by again to visit. He said he went up to the property to see what it looked like. He got a truckload of wood that day and said his worries were over this winter and several to come and would be going up on a regular basis. He gave us a big bottle of Jagermeister and a case of Redbull as thanks. I told him it wasn't necessary as he was also helping me out becasue he was cleaning up the property. Feels nice sometimes when you can help people in need out and you both benefit from the experience.

This is what 'Love Thy Neighbor' is all about! Thank you for doing this great act of kindness! You have no idea what the ramifications will be for this down the road, but it will come back to you ten-fold.

Thanks. As they say... From your mouth to God’s ears. Maybe just my bad luck, but acts of kindness on my part always seem to come back and bite me in the ass somehow.

Not just you Dio, same here. I don't mind helping people out, but I'm always looking around the corner after I do it to see how big the bus is that is inevitably going to run me down...
