Well in case the eclipse turns the population into flesh eating zombies I've got plenty of food, ammo, lawn chairs, smores, and a nice fire pit out on my back patio. Everyone is welcome to caravan to northwest Arkansas where you'll enjoy good food, good conversation, and a 360 degree unhindered field of fire. ;;D
Just honk your horn twice when you pull into the driveway because I doubt zombies would think to do that.;;D

Everyone have a good week.

Grouchy. Have a dear friend whose house is in the path of totality. Invited us up to her Eclipse Party. Was all set to go before the lure of Travel and Good Money brought me to Taiwan which, last time I looked, is not in the path of totality.

This is the quintessential First World Problem. I'll get by. Meanwhile, Grandma's staying home with new puppy, but I think there's going to be over 90% occlusion in the hometown. So that's something.

In spite of all the hoorah about it, I completely blanked out on trying to get the right glasses to view the eclipse. I think it was because I had it in my head we weren't in the path but turns out we'll have about 50-60% of the full eclipse. Will at least get to experience some of the darkness. I did see the one in 1963 so not a complete loss as far as total eclipses go.

I think putting your phone in camera mode like you're going to take a selfie then looking at the eclipse over your shoulder should work just as well as glasses. The screen on your phone should take care of any direct light issues I think.

They have actually been reporting that this can damage your phone unless you have a special filter for it.:blue:

I think he means --

You don't actually look through the viewfinder at the eclipse. You stand with the eclipse to your back and then put the camera in selfie mode and you see yourself and the eclipse over your shoulder -- you aren't directly looking at it through the eyepiece.

I think that wouldn't hurt you but always better safe than sorry.

Not damage to the person. Damage to the phone itself. Protect Your Eyes & Camera Equipment For Total Solar Eclipse « CBS New York
