Places I'd love to go. Highlands of Scotland. The Carolina's. Thailand.

My twin sister did one of those "round the world" trips when we were 20. Gone for a year and a half. In the days before mobile phones/internet. She used to write us letters.... letters! I remember my mum and step dad were round at mine and a letter had just arrived, so I read it out loud. It was when she was in Thailand. She'd just partaken of her first joint. I was halfway through reading the letter out loud and got to the bit where she told me. I stopped mid sentence, not wanting to drop her in it. My mum laughed and said "for goodness sakes she's in THAILAND! I'd have found it strange if she DIDN'T do it. As long as no habits are made"..... And sure enough, none were. :)

My travel experience can be summed up by the Three Dog Night Song I've Never Been to Spain. As a navy brat, I zigzagged up and down and across the U.S. lots of times. I've lived in ten different areas of the country, went to eleven schools (more if you count community college and the university), and lived in thirty dwellings. So, to some extent, my wanderlust has been sated. I've been as far down in Mexico as Ensenada and as far north as Vancouver. I would like to travel to Europe someday but in my own way. I don't want to be the typical tourist, shuffling quickly from site to to site en masse, attempting to absorb as much as I can on a seven-day vacation. Either my brain would explode from trying to process so many new and exciting things at once, or much of it would simply go over my head because I'd be so overwhelmed.
I would love to see all of america that you seen. There is a rail pass you can get, for US citizens, it is called the Euro-rail and you can travel all over europe at your own pace. i think it may be a month. no age limit. maybe slighty more expense for the more mature traveller. but it is still possible. Were you in Acapulco. I love the song 'Loco in Acapulco' by the four tops from the film 'buster'. i would like to go, but belive it or not anything over 18 degree is TOO warm for me. What would that be in the states? 64F i cannot take the heat. But in winter, when it is -1 i have been known to walk around in a t-shirt.

I have been on the board a bit now, Everybody talks about anything that intersts them. but what i havent seen(this could be on a very early thread) is Travel - vacations and holidays. Is anyone going this year? Where in the world would you love to go to.

I have been travelling since I was 10, Canada. I been to spain *2 , sardina, Paris, seen most of ireland. I did the inter-rail and saw a few cities during the day, by night, i was immersing myself in the good oul irish tradition and refreshing oneself with alcoholic beverages. Yes, i was practically durnk every night of the Inter-rail. Hey i'm irish. i would love to go the Peru - the Aztecs or is it Inca, sites, I would l ove to see whatever remains of the 7 wonders of the world. China to see the soldiers buried in the grave and the great wall. I would love to see the Nordic countries especially the Aurora borealis (disambiguation) In Norway. I would love to go to Christchurch to get our revenge on a brillant rugby side that should have being beaten by us. Want to head to oz to see Sydney harbour and see Ayer's rock. In N.Z, the Maoris don't shake hands, they rub your nose with their nose. If i am wrong correct me Flake noire I know many of you have families and have jobs, so you couldn't go where you wanted. but if you won the lotto would you go. I would love to pack in the rat race, F*** programming and just take off around the world for a year.

For anyone who is interested in new cultures, read any book on travel by Micheal Palin(a former Python head) He has travelled North/south poles, russia, brazil. just read any of his books if you like travel. they are easy reads dappled with a sense of humour.

"I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for Travel for travel's sake". Quote by R.L. Stevenson who had to go to sunnier climates to heal his illness. 1878.

Lots of places, thanks to the military - Cyprus, Greece, Africa, Holland, Pakistan (Islamabad), Saudi Arabia (when it was still called that), France (Nice), Switzerland, Germany, Scotland, England, a couple of places in the States like Florida, passing through the southern States (when visiting relatives).

I liked the Seychelles Islands - that was nice.

Mexico (at a resort when my oldest son got married down there) in the Yucatan Peninsula.

Six months of isolation up near the North Pole in Alert - those are all I can think of at the moment.

But I have never gotten to see Ireland yet unfortunately.

To answer your question - I would like to see Australia or NZ.

Places i like to go: Egypt is top of the list, the pyramids, Valley of kings etc and mix with a little sun at the red sea but it has to cool off there before i go. Mexiko with Chitzen Itza and some other maya sites and mix it with a stay on some sunny beach. I would like to do a tour or at least visit several places in both Spain and Italy with Venice, Rome and Milano topping the list.
Have been to Crete several times Fantastic place. Greece, Kos, Gran Canaria, Tunisia, Germany, France, England, Scotland, Iceland, Poland and Chechia in Europe. Of course Finland, Denmark and Norway too. And i forgot sankt Petersburg in Russia. Been twice to the US. Visited nine states during that time and saw, among other things, Grand Canyon, Mount Rushmore, Mesa Verde, Area 51 and a lot of other things. Visited the overlook in the rookies too by the way. At my next trip my first excursion will go to New Mexico which is one of the states i haven't been too.

Later this coming week, Grandma and I are packing up to go to Arches and Canyonlands and maybe the Canyon of the Ancients. Later this year, we'll hit San Fran and a place on my bucket list, Yosemite.

Haven't been to much of New England, although Boston was a neat place. Other than that, the only state I haven't set foot in is North Dakota. Been to Canada (Vancouver), the Yucatan and central Mexico, Jamaica, Grand Cayman. Ireland, and would like to see more of Europe someday.

Australia, New Zealand. Lived on Okinawa for about a year and visited mainland Japan. South Korea.

We'd still like to see Machu Picchu, Kyoto, more of Australia, do a Switzerland/south Germany/Austria thing, or Grandma also would love to do a river cruise in Germany. She'd also like to visit England, and I'd like to do a distillery tour in Scotland.
