1986 our primeminister Olof Palme was gunned down on his way home from watching a movie. He was walking. Someone sneaked up behind him and shot him and his wife. Baased on the surviving wifes witness acount a man was areested but since she only saw a glimpse of him and the police was doing a very sloppy work (perhaps in chock?) it was rather an uncertain id. He was later set free by the court. His name was Christer Pettersson. He spent the the rest of his short life bragging getting free meals and free drugs out of it. I never thought he did it. But who did? Theories are plenty but none has any good proofs. Probably will stay unsolved. I want to know!

He had plenty of people and organizations lined up there as possibilities. What do you think is the truth?

Here, there and everywhere.
Sorry about your friend.

Well, that is just odd, isn't it? No robbery and no sexual assault. So, why?

There was some talk about a troubled ex-boyfriend, a possible pregnancy, etc., but the police were satisfied that he had nothing to do with her murder. Her purse (with over $100 in cash) was left sitting on the passenger seat. She was very badly mutilated, so possibly a serial killer just killing for the heck of it? I heard (and I don't know if this is true) that the crime kit was destroyed in the flooding during Katrina. It's chilling to think that someone who would do something so evil and random is still out there.

And Etan Patz - my heart just rips every time I see his picture. I can't imagine his parents's pain.

That is heartbreaking for her family. And for humanity to know this person got away with this horrific crime.

I hope they got the right guy with Etan Patz. I just wish they could've found him.

I think it was a hit. A planned hit. The man who did it knew exactly the most effective escaperoute. That i think involves some scouting. Possible when Palme watched the movie. But it is significant that he knew, at least he never seemed to worry about lifeguards. Usually they are along but this evening Palme had ordered them off. I think that info came from someone in the know. I think the man was hired. His acting was very professional. But who, whom hired him? Don't know. Some Theories, like PKK, are just rubbish. They had more motive to protect him than to murder him. I think it was a small section to the far right in sweden behind it. He was a man that was both much hated and much loved. It is a fact that many inside the force were linked to the far right. I think one of these supplied info of time and place (perhaps even the murderweapon) , perhaps without knowing it would be a murder.I don't think it was an organization as a whole but a small part of one.
Christer Pettersson had never before expressed any political opinions or owned or handled a gun. the story of a chancemeeting and that he just happened to have a gun big as a babypig in his pocket is a very constructed one. Full of holes. Also a witness that saw the murderer run away from the scene. He knew CP and was positive it wasn't him. It is also a sad fact, later admitted by authorities, that the first days investigation into the matter was totally mishandled by the police.
He was shot on my birthday. I was out celebrating with friends my 21,st birthday in a place a few blocks away when he was murdered. I saw the ambulance come to take the body though i didn't know it was him until after reading the papers the next day. I Liked Palme. I did not always agree with him but i respected him. He was an intelligent politician (a rare species in my experience) that took stands. Said what he thought but still managed to be a politician. Israel did not like him because in his view there would never be peace until the palestinians had a state of sorts of their own. The US did not like him because he was very vocal in his views about the Vietnam war. Seeing the qaulity of politicians in Sweden today (very low) even his opponents miss him.

On your birthday and you were close by? That must have been unsettling. I hope people are still working this case so there can be resolution.

My town, Argos, IN, has two very chilling unsolved cold case murders in its history. In late summer, 1984, 28 year-old Darlene Hulse was beaten to death by an unidentified 'delivery man'--in front of her two daughters, who ran to a nearby neighbor's house. Hulse's body was later found dumped some seven miles away.

Two years later, 11 year-old Brandi Peltz was found in a bath tub, strangled and sexually assaulted, and her house set on fire. This one really scared our parents at the time (I was 12)--I remember strict rules about being outside after dark, or wandering around town alone. There's even been a Roman a clef novel written about this horrible crime--an equally horrible book called The Passerby, by Thomas Ray Crowel.

To tell the truth, Argos is a creepy little town.

Oh, they are. According to law a murder is not investigated when 25 years passed because then you cant accuse the murderer anymore but this made Sweden change the law. Now murderers can always be accused no matter how long time has passed. But i don't think anything will happen even if its still officially an open investigation.
I was just about three blocks away. A few minutes walk. I went there the next day to put flowers on the spot. You could still see the bloodstain. I also put some flowers on his grave after the funeral.

I'm still looking, but haven't been able to find the article with the interviews that I was looking for. This article was written after Charlie Whitman died. He was brought in by the SBI specifically for this case, the interview with him was really interesting. He had said that of all the cases he had worked, this one bothered him the most.

Here is an article from two years ago. The photo in the article isn't the house, it's at the top of the road pictured.

What is the talk on the street about these crimes? Does the town suspect anyone in these crimes? Who do you think did it?
