1. Have you ever carved a pumpkin? Did you roast the seeds?
Every year since forever. We always roast the seeds (much better than the store-bought kind)

2. Do you have superstitions?
Not really

3. What was the best (or worst) costume you wore on Halloween?
My favorite as a kid was gypsy. As an adult, my favorite has been when Mark and I went to a party as Fred and Wilma Flintstone.

4. Mischief night. Did you soap windows? Or egg? or what?
Only once. I'm too much of a first child to enjoy breaking the rules--always too worried about consequences to enjoy myself.

5. Creepiest thing you ever saw when not expecting it?
I'll have to think about that one

6. What is your favorite memory of candy?
Getting the little Whitman's Sampler box of candy in my stocking is a good memory

7. Best Halloween movie ever?
Halloween, of course

8. If you were Samantha, would you just wiggle nose and zap the annoying Darren away?
Probably. Dick Sargeant wasn't as bad as Dick York, so maybe he could stay.

9. Do you still avoid cracks, not to break your mother's back?
When I think about it

10. What was Herman Munster's job?
Dang, I don't know. He wore a hard hat and carried a lunch pail, but I can't remember what he did!

1. Have you ever carved a pumpkin? Did you roast the seeds?
Yes. Both as a child and an adult. Always threw the mushy pulp in the garbage, which is a waste, because we bought pumpkin seeds as treats.
2. Do you have superstitions?
None really. I guess the closest is playing a board game and rolling a dice to decide something that I should decide for myself. I then start to wonder about free will and destiny.
3. What was the best (or worst) costume you wore on Halloween?
Best and worst. About 13 or 14 years old. My three friends came over and I painted us all up as members of the rock group KISS. I did a job to be proud of but 15 minutes later the powdered 'tempra' paint dried and it flaked off of our faces every time we'd talk or laugh. It was years later I heard about the greasepaints in the tradition of theatre.
4. Mischief night. Did you soap windows? Or egg? or what?
Once, on Halloween night, I learned the hard way about mob mentality as it rippled though several unconnected crowds and caught fire. The next thing I knew we all had a car flipped on it's side and everyone ran for the hills. All perpetrators were caught, as this was a small town (~5,000) where everyone knew everyone. But holy crow did that ever go over the top quickly!
5. Creepiest thing you ever saw when not expecting it?
First official summer job at 14. Refurbishing an old steam locomotive, coal car, and caboose. When doing the caboose we drew straws to see who would have to clean up the toilet as the smell coming from there was rank. I lost. I opened up the toilet lid expecting to see human excrement and backed up out of the room with a low moaning sound. It was full of what I expected plus a big white pile of healthy squirming maggots. Still, I manned up and eventually did the job using 2 pieces of board.
6. What is your favorite memory of candy?
Mojos. They were two for a penny and most other candy was one for a penny.
7. Best Halloween movie ever?
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (the original).
8. If you were Samantha, would you just wiggle nose and zap the annoying Darren away?
I guess so because if I were Samantha I'd be a lesbian.
9. Do you still avoid cracks, not to break your mother's back?
Yes I do. Not just the cracks but the lines to save spines as well.
10. What was Herman Munster's job?
Wow...that's a toughy. I remember him with a briefcase so I am going to guess accountant.

1. Have you ever carved a pumpkin? Did you roast the seeds?
Not me personally, but I've watched hubby do it. Scooping out the innards grosses me out. Yes, I do know I'm weird.

2. Do you have superstitions?
I'm always afraid of jinxing things, if that counts.

3. What was the best (or worst) costume you wore on Halloween?
Best was probably when my childhood bff and I donned blanket sleepers and pacifiers and dressed as twin babies.
Worst was a sexy French maid outfit - complete with fishnets and heels ("worst" because I was only 13 :barf:)

4. Mischief night. Did you soap windows? Or egg? or what?
Never did it.

5. Creepiest thing you ever saw when not expecting it?
Okay, this isn't "creepy thing" in a Halloween way, but still very creepy. The hubby and I occasionally visit a nudist resort. One night we went to the club on the premises and ran into young lady who was a friend of our daughter's, when they were both little - who now works there.
Very creepy at first, but creepier when she asked hubby for my phone number because she wanted to "get with" me

6. What is your favorite memory of candy?
Going to the corner store where if you were getting back less than a nickel in change, they'd give it you in the form of Swedish fish (one fish = one cent) :D

7. Best Halloween movie ever?
Old black & white Dracula movies.

8. If you were Samantha, would you just wiggle nose and zap the annoying Darren away?
Depends on which Darren.

9. Do you still avoid cracks, not to break your mother's back?
There aren't sidewalks where I live so my mother's spine is fine.

10. What was Herman Munster's job?
I only know the answer to this from reading previous replies...before that, I thought he worked in a factory of some sort.

1. Have you ever carved a pumpkin? Did you roast the seeds? Every year, usually we carve 3 - sometimes roast the seeds, this Thursday night will be pumpkin carving night here at Chez Holly. Seeds: it depends on how much fun I'm having or if I'd had too much wine - it's a very fine line. I do keep the pumpkin pulp for the dogs. I cooked it & puree it for them. Helps keep them regular.

2. Do you have superstitions? I am convinced someone put a curse on me once. TOTALLY. She gave me some charms. The Ogre finally took them away and did something with them - I still don't know what. Life got better after. Coincidence? Insanity? Probably. But I still say she cursed them.

3. What was the best (or worst) costume you wore on Halloween? Gypsy: Best ( skimom2!), worst - I can't remember ever not liking my costume.

4. Mischief night. Did you soap windows? Or egg? or what? We sort of gathered and split into two teams and we pursued each other all night with eggs, soap (each other's cars), toilet paper (each other's houses), water balloons, etc. I think this was the norm from ages 13 - 17. Much fun, little trouble. The cops were really good in our town. They watched out for us without giving us grief for being kids. But we weren't destructive with property - just each other. I got hit in the head with a bottle rocket one year during a bottle rocket war.

5. Creepiest thing you ever saw when not expecting it? I was taking my daughter (then 3) for a walk in the "holler" my grandmother lived in and we passed a house where a woman with a full beard sitting on her porch swing was preaching the Gospel as she knew it. Freaked me out. Still does when I think about it.

6. What is your favorite memory of candy? Being old enough to ride my bike to the U-Totem with a pocket full of change and buying candy. Wax teeth, pretend smokes and candy lipstick were my favorites. Pillow cases full of candy every Halloween. We had so many houses in our neighborhood and most everyone gave out candy. There was a DJ who gave out 45s one year. I got Ebony Eyes.

7. Best Halloween movie ever? Halloween - the original. But I have to say - the remake is quite good - scared me more than the first.

8. If you were Samantha, would you just wiggle nose and zap the annoying Darren away? Laws, yes. Both of them. I would be hanging with Uncle Arthur & Endora - they were fun.

9. Do you still avoid cracks, not to break your mother's back? If I remember.

10. What was Herman Munster's job?I didn't ever know until Scott enlightened me. I was more of an Adams Family watcher.

????????????????? I understand this is referencing something but have no idea what
10. What was Herman Munster's job?
Who is Herman Munster??? Should i recognise that name? I probably should......
Kurben, I am tailoring this reply to your questions.
1. I have carved a pumpkin - poorly. I've always enjoyed Halloween because of the feel of the season. Now, I maintain the American customs to some extent, but I embrace the symbolic transitional nature of Samhain. I'm curious about how "All Soul's day" is represented in your culture.(I light candles too)
2. I have no superstitions; I understand how science and history synthesize in the microcosm.
3. My parents had me dress up as trash once and parade around the mall for a contest. I had a banana peel on my head.
4. I honestly did not know what this was about either (I thought perhaps cleaning the windows:umm::witless:) I inferred from the comments that it referred to the malicious pranks that some children pull on Halloween. throwing an egg at a window. .I imagine? I remember some kids strewing toilet paper all over another person's home and yard. Don't know what soap would be for.
5. I don't know - (I do know and I'm not going to share that imagery with anyone lest it be too disturbing)
6. I liked nerds, back when I ate candy
7. Kurben, same answer
8. This is a reference to an old show from the sixties/ seventies called "Bewitched". Samantha was a housewife/witch and Darren was her husband. If I were a were Samantha, I would flash forward to 1974 when the Wiccan Rede was first published as a poem, give it a quick once over, and HARM NONE. . .If I were Wiccan. I'm Pagan. Not mutually exclusive, but this is not a seminar, either.
9. refers to an old superstitious saying: "step on a crack, break your mother's back" If you've ever seen the movie "As Good as it Gets", you might remember Jack Nicholson's character avoided stepping on sidewalk cracks because of his OCD.
10. Another reference to a character from an old sitcom, The Munsters. Herman Munster (apparently was the fifth Earl of Shroudshire) looked a little like Frankenstein's monster.
