No, I enjoy the wizardry of a well written short story. I own several collections. Here are some writers that I like:
Megan Mayhew Bergman
Ron Rash
Michael Knight
Brad Watson
Eudora Welty
Flannery O'Connor
Lee Smith
Andre Dubus
(I'll try to remember this recommendation next time I'm in the library.)
Dubus collection on sale today:

I think these are some of the best short stories I've ever read. Or maybe I'm just in the right mood for them. But they are all positively perfect. Am I the only short story fanatic on here? I just can't get enough.

After that great review, I'm going to be on the lookout for The Book Thief MadBoJangles .
I have never been a big fan of short stories, I prefer a good chunky novel myself.
Really hope you like The Book Thief :)

I have been in this terrible reading black hole. I just have not been able to pick up and finish a book in months. MONTHS!

So, I got a book that I knew would draw me along. It's nonfiction and fun.

GIANT OF THE SENATE -- By Al Franken.

Not only is this book smart and witty, it really shows what someone who cares about the country thinks about the game of politics and how hard he works to try to get things done. He takes this job very seriously, but, he can still keep his integrity and humor too. And, it shows how these senators who just totally oppose everything about the other side can respectfully fight, vote for and against things, and come out at the end of the day not making it personal. Oh, I'm sure some do, but real grown up adults don't. We can all take a lesson from that.

I really recommend this. It's about politics, but it is also about the human condition, with some wicked smart humor thrown in.

I have Mystery Walk, Baal and Bethany's Sin all still to read sat on my bookshelf.
Yet to read a McCammon that I didn't enjoy, even the Night Boat had a cheesey goodness to it :)
I've enjoyed every single McCammon book that I've read, too. Some more than others but they've all been interesting.

i don't totally understand it either, although i think i've picked up basic concepts from some novels. hopefully the authors weren't taking too many liberties with the explanations. well, i mean quantum mechanics. shcrodinger's cat i'm down with, at least on the basic level.
The Wayward Pines trilogy ebooks are $0.99 each on Amazon. I think they'll be on sale all month.

(Link to book 1, but all three are on sale.)

recitador, I know you've probably read these, but you were the last to post about Crouch, so I replied to you.
