Absolutely LOVE Out Of Africa! 'I had a farm in Africa.....' Love it! Streep is sensational here, as is Redford. Beautiful film! Beautiful cinematography! Beautiful music!
I agree.
My friends and I saw Out of Africa when it first came out and until this day we occasionally say out of the blue, in our best Meryl Streep impersonation, "I had a farm in Africa..." lol

The Darkside of the Moon (England really)
I had to try The Stand three times before it ensnared me - keep trying, its totally worth it!
Weird that, I was always a bit weary of it's sheer size, but one day when I was nearing the end of a dark tower volume (3 or 4) I read the prologue to the stand - it was so hurried, so urgent, I was hooked right there, I couldn't wait to finish my dark tower book to start the stand properly. I was captured by it all the way through book one, once it had slowed down (after the outbreak) I was fully committed. Great choice guys, I will definitely reread the stand again one day.

Btw, I doubt Ebola will spread through the states like it did through west Africa, a large portion of that outbreak was from eating infected monkey meat.

Welcome to the board kyl-allie.

Felt i needed a break and something oldfashioned. I took out John Dickson Carrs The Burning Court from the shelves. Carr was, and probably still is, the person who has written the best locked room mysteries ever. He takes them serious and not just like a game. He is uneven but his best are really good. The Burning court belongs among them together with The Judas Window, The Hollow man, the Crooked hinge and The Bride of Newgate and a few more.

Seems to be a lot of theories as to the source: Although this article is from March I have seen more recent references to fruit bats being cause.

BBC News - Guinea Ebola outbreak: Bat-eating banned to curb virus

Kurben, you gave me something to read, thanks. I read the synopsis and had to search for it. Shame it's not on kindle. Will have to download the pdf
They have Carr on pdf? Afraid its too old for kindle. He wrote his best stuff in from about 1930 to 1950 or so. One or two of the titles i mentioned are written under his pseudonym, Carter Dickson.

Here, there and everywhere.
I just finished "The Casual Vacancy," and loved it (I think I may be in the minority there).

I just started reading "Then We Came To The End," by Joshua Ferris. So far, so good, but I'm only about 10 pages in.

I've got the two Robert Galbraith novels on my TBR stack, and am waiting for "Station Eleven" by Emily St. John Mandel, to arrive at the library.

I'm reading a strange book at the moment. It was completely by accident and I would never have chosen it willingly, had I not been between books 'of choice'. It's The Lollipop Shoes, sequel to Chocolat, by Joanne Harris. Weirder still, I haven't even read the first book or seen the film adaptation.

What can I say? it's an oddly compelling read. The witchcraft element interests me, and it's beautifully written, but other than that I'm at a loss to say why I'm still reading it! Not normally my 'thing' at all.

Ah well, back to thriller/horror genre shortly ;;D

My copy of A Sudden Light came in the mail the other day, not sure when I'll get to it. I'll finish Station Eleven this weekend (really enjoying it) and Natchez Burning is as hot as the title implies.
So glad you are enjoying Station and Natchez, I am three quarters the way through A Sudden Light, cannot put it down. Then it's on to the doings of the Decker/Lazarus family, from California to New York? It should be very interesting. I've pushed my library reserve list out till the end of the month and I am charging my tablet for days on the bay!
