One thing that really brought back memories of my childhood in Revival was . . .

The Tent Revival Meeting . . .all that sanging (that's how we say it back home) Lawd, child --I could hear them folks testifying and feelin' the holy spirit. I could feel the excitement and see all the people gathered there. The Choir was just rocking folks --I could see 'em jumping up and down and spinning all around --that choir was just upsetting the hell out of folks! I swear I heard my momma shout, "Hallelujah!"

That was damn good writing right there! I could even imagine the smell of the tent.

Of all the authors, only SK is able to do that for me- bring me "into" the places, scenes, people he describes. That is pure talent/ genius. Being from NYC and raised Catholic the first southern tent revival meeting I ever attended blew me away.

Must agree--King made me feel like I was there as well.

However, I was raised Church of God (and then later went to Pentecostal) in the south so tent revivals were fairly regular for me.

Well, there's no shortage of back catalogue stuff by SK to re-read! :)

I just picked up this annoying looking book I Am Not Sick! I Don't Need Help! : How to Help Someone with Mental Illness Accept Treatment.

The cover shows the back of a man, stomping out a screen door, down some steps, and away from a house. He's probably p.o.'d that everyone is nagging the crud out of him over his differences, so I imagine he is heading out to the local Barnes & Noble where the coffee is hot and the books never judge him they just jump into his lap like wee little kittehs for a cuddle. Poor guy.

You are so right --pulls you in and locks you in and I think that's why I can't do re-reads because I grew up reading most of his work and I know good writing . . .good writing makes me pay closer attention so I don't have to revisit the book, that and the fact that I have great recall on most anything.

. . .he is always spot-on with the descriptions . . .
