I am going to take the library's book back today and go the B&N with one of my gift cards; I'm getting my own copy. This book grabbed me with the first couple of words, I detect a bit of Faye here too. I cannot let this one go. It is 550 pages, usually a breeze for me, but with Thanksgiving and Christmas coming up, I am going to be pinched for read time. After the B&N I will be off to the chocolatier's for some dark chocolate fudge to feast on while stealing some quiet conversations with the family Kellerman. Awesome!!
MMMMmm, dark chocolate fudge.........sorry drooling.

hi. Kurben, They said that jack the ripper was a member of the royal family, if you want a 'definitive' account of jack the ripper, Patricia Cornwell wrote a book, can't think of the name. it's interesting.
Pretty interesting. Not convincing, though--for someone who writes mysteries, she's pretty lax on proof. Several of the things she cites as definitive proof for her accusal are subject to debate, particularly the DNA evidence.

Patricia Cornwell's book is called Portrait of a Killer: Jack the Ripper - Case Closed. There was an accompanying documentary, iirc, possibly broadcast in two parts. I remember seeing it, but it's been a while so I can't remember how it was broadcast now.
Her conclusion is quite interesting. I wasn't then, and am not now, entirely convinced - she seemed to start along very professional lines (perhaps unsurprisingly), but ultimately seemed to fixate - but if you're interested in the case it's a good addition to 'the lore'. (There are other books and theories that are easily discredited and/or widely ignored, after all.)

Thanks, Mr Nobody Interesting Picture. 22nd reg SAS or the Reg. I assume you read Bravo Two Zero, what you may not have read was another book by a member of the 'reg' called the real bravo two zero. the chappie spent 2 years living with nomads etc and tells interested folks like you and I everything in Bravo two zero is a lie. I don't know what to believe. If you are a member of the SAS you do not tell anyone you are. Offical secrets act. There are 4 troops inSAS mountain boat(not SBS) air, i cant think of the other one.

The one by "Michael Asher"? Yep, read it. What actually happened will probably never be known - as in, what the mission was, etc - since BTZ, The Real BTZ, The One That Got Away, et al, were all (presumably) subject to MoD clearance. Then there are those who claimed "Andy McNab" was a bit of a fantasist anyway, so like you, I don't know what to believe. It's interesting stuff, though.
Strictly speaking, you're not supposed to tell anyone which unit you're with anyway under the conditions laid down by the OSA, but most squaddies do. UKSF is obviously a special case, but one advantage is that no one ever believes you if you say you're in whichever unit, be it 22 Reg, 21 Reg (Artists), 23 Reg (TA), SBS, "The Det/14 Int Group"...whatever. Deep **** awaits those who tell, but you've got the usual guys who end up on the telly, undisguised but presumably using false names, and I know one of my godfathers was 'in' (many moons ago) so the veil slips now and then. But for all I know, you know all this and more. Who's to say? ;)
(The funny thing was, when my godfather told his wife which unit he was in, she didn't believe him. She thought he was one of the REME guys attached to service their vehicles. She only got confronted with the real truth when he died, almost 30 years after he got out.)
IIRC, the other troop's Mobility.

Have you read Go! Go! Go! by Rusty Firmin and Will Pearson at all? It's an account of the Iranian Embassy siege.

Going to start A Storm of Swords (Game of Thrones series). I'm considering going straight through to book five, but I'm not sure.

Do it! There's a lot of negativity about the fourth book, but I didn't see it. Once you adjust to the idea that it has very little of the 'big' characters, it's really pretty interesting. Book 2 is definitely my favorite so far, but they're all worth reading.

AND it is WONDERFUL, sliced up three huge chunks for bite-size nibbling and hid it where the family will not think to look.

My Chocolatier verified the rumor stated here in another thread that chocolate could be in short supply as she stated 'unfortunately chocolate and coffee are usually from war-torn or the poorest of countries including those who are battling Ebola in Africa, yes, there could be a problem.' She also stated that she would not put it past the big chocolate companies taking advantage of bad situations as the above to raise their prices.
