I came back to Orwell. Hadn't read him in three years.
I am reading "Shooting an elephant and other essays" . I am fascinated by his pragmatic use of language. As a journalism student, I believe him to be the reference on how to write clear, objective prose. This book is starting to become a Bible to me.

A Hanging:
"It was about forty yards to the gallows.I watched the bare brown back of the prisoner(...)And once, in spite of the men who gripped him by each shoulder, he stepped slightly aside to avoid a puddle on the path."

I'm reading Orwell too at the moment. Books and Cigarettes, essays. So far I really like the one about working in a bookstore. He spoiled my fantasy but of well, he did it too well for me to take it the wrong way. :) I love his writing.

Is it wrong if I post my review blog post in here? I could post the entire review in here, but I kind of wanted to now who reads it and how, for audience studying purposes (academic)
No sorry, any posts taken directly from your blog will need to be posted in the Self Promotion area of the MB and will have to be a link (to your blog/site) only.

I'm not sure how you will gather data on who reads it.

Well, who clicks it... And yes, it makes sense that there exists a self promotion thread. It avoids people spamming these threads with links.

Was there an issue with the book, or just that your desire to re read the Hobbit was a great call?

A little of both, actually. I read 70+ pages of Fifth Heart then just couldn't follow the story any more. I've been especially tired recently and I'm sure that had something to do with it. Simmons' historical fiction takes some concentration and I just was too distracted to continue. The Hobbit is a fun and easy read.

All You Zombies - Robert Heinlein (1959)

This is a short story I found in an science fiction anthology. What a freaky story (especially for 1959). I saw a movie called Predestination with Ethan Hawke that was based on this story. I liked the movie so I went looking for the story and found it in an anthology (that I had on my bookshelf) called "The Arbor House Treasury of Modern Science Fiction." If you like a good mind bending, time travel, hermaphrodite story, this is for you. Highly recommended.

Thank you! The mind and spirit have to connect with a book. It may come in time. Enjoy the Hobbit.
