I like him a lot. Maybe he tries harder because he can't fall back on looks? lol. Seriously, he was the best part of Gone, Baby, Gone, even in that VERY strong cast.
I started Gone Girl last night. Read 70 pages. I'm liking it (although I'm not too keen on the wife's character, and the verdict is still out on the husband) so far. I know the ending, so it's not going to come as a big surprise to me. I am enjoying the voice of the author. I hope I'm not one of those that loved the first 3/4 of the book and then didn't like how it ended up.
I've been plodding through a free ebook called Binds That Tie (Kate Moretti) for over a week now. A lot of twists but the writing style is a bit choppy for me.
Clan of the Cave Bear was my current laundry room book. I got engrossed last night and finished it (for the first time in quite a while)--I forgot how much I HATE Broud. I read two or three of the series following this one, but I don't remember being very impressed past the first half of the second book, so I don't own any of them. Does anyone know/remember if Ayla ever sees her son (Durc) again in the later books?
I just started reading the first Perry Mason book in the series, The Case of the Velvet Clause, by Erle Stanley Gardner. My husband and I have been watching the Raymond Burr TV series on MeTV (an "oldies" station). I had never watched it when I was younger and I just love it now. I always like going back to the source material to see how things compare. I'm only a few pages in, but so far I like it.

No, she doesn't . She dreams of him now and then. Has a very intensive dream about him in the Mammoth Hunter that make her discuss going back to get him but she realised after some talk with the Mamut of the tribe that he was her gift to the clan but that her and her sons paths now are separated. The only one worth reading again, except for the Cave Bear, is the Mammoth Hunters, nr 3 in the series. And that only if you skip the pornscenes. It is in the same way as Cave Bear is a good picture of neanderthal a good picture of Cromagnon people. And you are right, Broud is very easy to hate.....

Thank you! I didn't think she saw him again, but I couldn't remember. I'm pretty sure I read through the first three books in the series, but then stopped there. I might have to pick up #2 and #3 and see if I like them better now than I did when I originally read them. I still have my original, well-loved PB of Cave Bear, but I hadn't read it in years

The second, Valley of Horses, really are horrible. Bad written and you know how its gonna end and i think Jondalar is one of the most boring Heroes in literature through the age. Auel is only worth reading when her heroine, Ayla, is part of a society because then we get an ok picture of that society like Cave Bear. When she is alone or travelling she is not a good enough author to make it interesting for a whole book. Skim the second to get the context and read the third The Mammoth Hunters. I have read all six of them but Cave Bear and Mammoth Hunters are the only ones i return to.
If anyone is interested, the kindle of A Prayer For Owen Meany is $1.99 on BookBub today [/QU
Thanks, got it now. Been meaning to for awhile but that price made me do it!
I meant to say thank you Skimom for the tip. I got it now! Been meaning to for awhile and that price made me do it. Dont know what happened to the initial post......
Lent is OK this year; I had such high hopes for it and it really fell apart. For the last few years, I don't give up something as much as take on a cause. Without going into detail, I've fallen way short of what I wanted to accomplish so now I am concentrating on a more spiritual calm that will get me through Easter. It's sort of a Zen Lent right now.
As far a a "sequel" to The Shining I really should have used the word "prequel," as I am really just referring to the fact that I was so disappointed with Doctor Sleep that aspects of Joyland continued the "feeling" of The Shining much more than DS did.
Mike has "the shining" like Danny Torrance did. Instead of a haunted hotel, there is a haunted amusement park. When I first read Joyland I was convinced the events that happened in the book were in some way related to The Shining. I'm probably the only one in the world who feels this way though.
We had our liturgy planning meeting for Holy Week tonight. Here it comes, ready or not. I do love the Triduum - but it's exhausting when you're working behind the scenes. Wishing you spiritual calm - I'll take some of that too!

I can well imagine. My husband is in the bell choir at our church and performs at various times throughout Holy Week. The hardest part for him is the Saturday vigil which gets him home around midnight and then Sunday morning Easter mass. I am not involved like that at church so I just allow him to call the shots as to how we spend the rest of Easter Sunday. This year we are staying local and have a 2pm reservation for a lovely restaurant, just the 2 of us.
All the spiritual calm you need right back at you HollyGolightly! Peace!
I picked up Room for my daughter at the thrifty the other day, and last night I idly opened it up...and was up to a horrible hour again. Read nearly the whole thing in one go. Definitely an interesting book! I started Michael Pollan's Second Nature today and I don't dare pick it up again--I need sleep
