Well, I just finished "Calamity" which was Book 3 of the Reckoners series by Brandon Sanderson. Thought it was a good read, as was much of the rest of the series. It was more of a YA series, but still enjoyable.

I think my next read will be Wormwood Dawn: Episode I unless something else catches my attention before I begin.
People seem embarrassed to say they read a YA. I think many of today's YA books are very well written, more honest and not trying too hard types of stories. They can be very very good.

I am not embarrassed by YA, but just wanted to forewarn anyone who might look into it as I hadn't expected it to be YA going in. Still, fun and good read.

As to YA, I have no issues with it, BUT I do find I get upset when reading something labeled YA and the book turns out to be hot and heavy filled with sex. When I'm reading a book aimed at the teenage market, the last thing I want to read is something where two people just meet and next thing they have their clothes off. That's why I read a lot of YA is to see what my kids are reading.

By todays standards Lord of the Flies would be considered YA. Just because it was about a bunch of children. Markus Zusaks The Bookthief was Marketed as YA a few years ago. Very good. A good story is a good story and always will be regardless of label.

True, I remember seeing on Amazon that "The Lies of Locke Lamora" was a YA title, which actually delayed me reading it. Once I had, I regretted waiting, and kept thinking who the hell would ever classify that as Young Adult?

Started The Institute by Kayla Howarth, a YA book about a world where a horrible pandemic struck out a lot of humanity causing world wide travel an and closed borders. A vaccin saved part of humanity but also had unexpected effects when some people got strange and sometimes dangerous abilities. These special abilities people are dealt with by the Institute. Thats the setting . Just read first three chapters yet but so far ok.

Have you read Michael Grant's Gone series, Kurt? Some aspects of the book you're reading reminded me of that series. YA, but very dark--one of my favorites. I just checked out the second book of his BZRK series yesterday & am looking for a treat. To me, he's a YA version of Mr. King :) Very interesting to talk to on Twitter, too!

If you're looking for reading copies, I could help you out with both of those. :)
Thanks, Morgan...I'll be hitting up the used bookstore soon. If I don't find them maybe I'll take you up on that. Half the fun is digging through thrift stores, etc. As you know. I think you and kingricefan are the biggest Thrifters. :)

To quote Martha Stewart: 'It's a good thing.' ;-D I staopped at Goodwill on the way home from work today and didn't get anything. There was a bookclub edition of The Shining there but it was missing the dust jacket.
