I'm nearly finished too, but can't decide at all how I feel about it. The Easter eggs
are taking me out of the story somewhat. Hmmmmm. I love all of Joe's other books, but I'm mixed about this one. Will know more when I'm done reading, I guess.

Know what you mean. I will probably enjoy it more with a re-read. When I am not taken aback, and saying 'really?' Hey Jude?

Ive been bad....... I entered a used bookstore and somehow i ended up with 16 books. Neil Gaiman American Gods, John Saul Shadows, Dan Simmons Black Hills, Robert McCammon Baal, John D Macdonald Darker Than Amber, Paul Anderson Winter Of The World. Add to that a Bradbury I did not have and a Steinbeck and some Ngaio Marsh and Josephine Tey. It was only later i realised that somehow i have to make room for the books in my suitcase. That is an equation with no solution especially since i bought two interesting factbooks in a fancy bookstore in Denver (they were on bargain price, i just could not resist) but the used books were only a dollar a piece so i did not ruin myself. Are the titles i mentioned good? Ive heard you talk about Saul and thought I should form my own opinion. Are Black Hills or Baal good?
Bookstore will be my economic ruin. They are my kryptonite. Put me in front of a bookstore and my thoughts drift away. I am standing there with my mouth open, my tungue popping out, practically drooling like a kid in a candystore.

Kurben - suggestion.... you could always mail some clothing back home and keep the books to your suitcase, or vice versa. Check out postal costs via the different methods. So happy to hear you are having a good trip. Enjoy and be safe.

Black Hills is good, you should like it as it has a few historical characters in it, if I remember correctly.

I just finished "Baal." It is not McCammon's greatest but that is to be expected since it was his first or second novel. It's readable but a bit rough around the edges.

Man Oh man, you have some wonderful titles there and what a deal!!! Can you get a canvas bag with handles to pack the books in? Or mail them to yourself? Whatever the method they must go home with you!!

When I went to Canada, I managed to get the whole "New Mutants" comic book series (more than 100 issues). I filled an entire suitcase with them (it was very heavy afterwards) and left a pair of shoes behind. And I would do it again (with another comic book series, my New Mutants books are still safe and with me).

I finished Let the Right One In and absolutely loved it! Great read. Now I need to watch the original Swedish film of it. I must say that I read samples of both Harbour and Handling the Dead and neither one quite gripped me as did Let the Right One In from the start.

Currently, I am reading The Best Science Fiction & Fantasy of 2015 as edited by Joe Hill. I'm not the biggest short story fan, but I love these genres so I am enjoying most of the stories. I will say that after reading How the Marquis Got His Coat Back by Neil Gaiman that I am now 100% sure that I do not like his writing at all. I had read a couple of his novels and did not like them but after reading this very bad short story, I can officially say I need never read another thing by the man. On the other hand, Karen Russel's Bad Graft is one of the best short stories (of any genre) I have ever read. Poetic in its writing and absolutely breathtaking in its imagery, this story still has me thinking about it nearly 5 days after finishing it.

It was the characters in LTROI that cinched it for me.

Reading "Death is a Lonely business" By Ray Bradbury.
Ray was the beginning of my book reading craze,
Started with reading "There will come soft rains" in my 6th grade reader.
After that, I was hooked!
I continued reading and collecting Bradbury books all through Highschool.
[My buddies nicknamed me "Bradbury" due to always having one of his paperbacks in my back pocket and my last name being "Bradley"

Always a great read!!

One of my top authors. His last book, We'll Always Have Paris, was a total flop for me. I was disappointed. (I think that was his last book.)
