I've read the name, but haven't read anything written by him.

Your mention of Turtledove reminded me: abut a month ago I had a dream that my husband and I were sitting in some living room discussing Harry Turtledove's books with Mr. and Mrs. King, which is weird because 1) I've never read anything by him and 2) my husband rarely reads fiction at all :D Dreams are weird.
I often like his stand alone books best, Guns of the South (the southern states win the war thanks to a gift of some handy AK47 from some timetravelers but what are their goal?), A Different Flesh (no homo sapiens entered the americas but some Homo Erectus did) and these are what the colonists meet when they arrived. His series often start well but go on a bit too long. His World War series is ok. WW2 is in full force when aliens invade, then he likes to play with southern Victor. In How Few Remain the South win the war in 62 and then from there on two american states exist side by side and are not friends . A History described in American Front, Walk in Hell and Breakthroughs. He also wrote a book about how the japanese won a much more decisive victory in Pearl Harbour than what happened. The japanese can successfully invade Hawaii. Days of Infamy is that one called.

The Christmas Spirit - Brian James Freeman

Cemetery Dance sent an e-mail a few days ago and offered this e-short story for free, so I downloaded it. I just got around to reading it and thought it was awesome. It's only 24 pages so I can't say much without giving away the surprise but it's well worth reading even though it's a few days after Christmas.

Thanks for the info! Hope you are feeling better soon. Healing vibes sent your way!
I'm waiting to see if it will resolve itself (lots of water, OTC meds as necessary); if it doesn't, I'll be taking a trip to the doc. I don't mess with sinus infections--I let one go once and ended up with bronchitis which took over a month and some very strong drugs to resolve (and doc said that now I'm more susceptible to bronchitis for the rest of my life).

I owe you a package! Things got hectic right before Christmas and it's sat here unmailed--I'm so sorry! I'll get it off tomorrow.

Last night I started Odds On by 'John Lange' aka Michael Crichton. I think it's the only 'Lange' book that I haven't read over the years. I used to have all of them in original paperback form, but got rid of them when I moved from Seattle. Now I'm starting to collect them again. I read 1/3 of it last night- it's that good! These are the books that Crichton wrote while he was in medical school back in the sixties.

Well, it isn't Odds On that I started reading last night. It is Scratch One. My bad.

Finished Nonintervention by Harry Turtledove (a good SF-story) and started The World in Winter by John Christopher (new ice age kind of thing. Interesting because the british that flee the cold to africa find that there they are not trusted just as they did not trust the coloured in britain which they find strange) Written in the early 60-ties.

Finished Lone Wolf. It was a quick read, but nothing great. Usually Picoult's stories have a twist or two (or ten...) but this one was a bit predictable.

I will be starting Gone With the Wind as soon as it's delivered. I haven't read it since the 90s, but I've always been a huge fan (more of the film than the novel). I lost my copy and I'm long past due for a reread.
