Finished Sam Harris's Lying in a hour, it's only 45 pages long. Pretty good book on the importance of telling the truth. Also read the first chapter of Freakanomics. Plan on finishing book two of GoT and I'm going to start Mr Mercedes.
Freakanomics was interesting, but a bit uneven-they stretch logic in a couple of places. Still a good read! The documentary was good, too; not sure if I watched it on Netflix or Hulu (or from the library-lol)

The only time I thought they were off was in their second book where they argue that putting sulfur dioxide in the air is a good idea to address global warming.

How far into it are you? I am really liking it so far.
I have only just got it and as yet, have only managed 2 pages but I AM SO FRIKKING EXCITED!!! I adore this story and cant wait to see where this book takes us. I saw her her just before the release of An Echo in the Bone and she said that this one would be the end of the story...though I have seen nothing that suggests she stuck to that ha! Fine by me if she doesnt. After all it will be far easier than kidnapping her, drugging, hobbling and making her write more books just for me!

Just started a Thomas Tryon novel called Lady, that I don't recall reading "back in the day" though I may have. I love The Other (in a tie with Carrie as my favorite "horror" book) and Harvest Home, so I am looking forward to this one.
The Other has been taught in many writing classes as one of the best examples on how to write a novel. I hope you're not expecting any otherworldly happenings with 'Lady' because it is a straight novel of fiction- no ghosties, no monsters, etc. It is a good story tho! I have been in search of a really nice copy of The Other for a while now. I absolutely LOVE the older Knopf books- they put alot of nice little stampings, etc. on the front of the actual hard covers. Found a bookclub edition at a thrift store but, being a book snob (Hi. My name is kingricefan and I am a book snob!), I won't buy it as I have to have a true 1st printing. I had all of Tryon's novels (one of them signed) at one time in my collection but his were ones that I gave up before my move across state.

I have picked up again Screamplays after putting it down when I finished King's 'The General" and going onto other books. I am halfway thru Richard Matheson's screenplay for The Legend Of Hell House. It is really creepy! I think I have seen this movie but it didn't seem to scare me very much. I think it should be redone and updated. CREEPY!!

I have a hardcover library edition of The Other (obviously not a book snob :watermelon:). You really seem to know your books! Even though I worked in publishing for years, I really don't get caught up in all of that. Just my view; I'm not making any judgments!
I do know that Lady is a straight forward novel, but thanks. So far I love it. Great story and writing. It's a great take on the gothic romance genre.

Ive just finished Different Seasons again. What a brilliant book, all the stories are brilliant although if i had to choose a favourite it would be Shawshank (followed closely by Apt Pupil). Im taking a break from Stephen King now and im going to read Dan Simmons - Abominable.
Let us know if you liked it! I am currently hip deep in Carrion Comfort, and it is a hard slog, about eight hundred pages of small type, but well worth the effort..read his The Terror, and think this is a superior book..

I can imagine what reading Carrion Comfort is like with really tiny print! But, it will be worth it. While I enjoyed The Abominable, I like The Terror more. I think Simmons got bogged down in too much detail about mountain climbing in The Abominable (I had to do some skimming thru those parts).

Thanks KRF..not too bad,I just need new glasses..I like the idea of mountain climbing, but reading about it is more my speed than actually doing it,lol,so looking forward to reading it later this summer.. in general I really like Simmons, think CC would be a good movie.Reminds me briefly of John Carpenter's Prince of Darkness..

I'll double-check but I believe it's from the Rosie's Diner set on location for Under the Dome in Wilmington, NC.
I thought the picture looked too new for a joint. I felt like I wanted a bacon and egg with fried tomato, some sausages, fried potato, and maybe some baked beans on the side. This is what they serve in outback Australia. I'm sure it's not much different in America.
