Years ago my son wrote a letter to Robert Munsch. He got a reply which included an autographed book. (How awesome is that?) After reading it several times, he loaned it to someone, who then claimed they couldn't find it, then claimed they never borrowed it. (It was the mom making these claims.)

Who steals a child's book, with a personalized autograph?

I have three autographed books. Not by the author, though. The SF author Jack Vance knew my after and for some reason really liked me. I must have been about 7. When he got home he sent me three books to read when i got a bit bigger. Two of Frank L. Baums oz books and the Wind In The Willows. I still treasure them.

My first Christmas present this year is an autographed book. It's Unsinkable by Silken Laumann.

I've never had an autographed book before,

I was in Barnes & Noble recently and noticed by chance that they have a whole table of signed books. Not from any authors that had actually been in the store but they apparently are starting to sell some copies presigned. If you are going to buy a new book, you might as well get a signed version. Hopefully by "signed" they mean really signed by the author and not auto-penned. I remember several years ago they offered a special edition "signed" copy of Jurassic Park that it turned out to be auto signed. A real rip off.

And then there are signed editions where the page was "tipped in" meaning the author actually signed the page, but independently from the book before or after it was physically published. This page is then "tipped in" during the printing and assembling process or pasted in after the book is done printing.

That would be a rip-off.

I know for certain my daughter-in-law got this one signed. She was so excited about have spent time with Silken. It wasn't just buying and lining up, she occasionally meets famous people through her work, and they are often people she respects and admires prior to meeting them. Bit of a job perk. :)

I can live with that but not a facsimile or autopen signature being advertised as "signed." Signed in my opinion means signed by the author and not a machine.

I have a bunch of books signed by Joe Hill, Robert Mccammon, Abraham Bolden ( one of JFKs secret service guys) a few true crime books signed. I noticed at Books A Million awhile back while looking for a copy of Natchez Burning by Greg Iles ( King recommendation ) they had some copies signed by him. Looked legit but what do I know lol. Surprised me!!!

Someone who's going to be in the front row of seats in Hell, while Satan spews hatred from his pulpit! This is the lowest of lows!

Before Michael Crichton died, you could send books to his office in California (of course with pre-paid return postage!) and he would sign them. I had all of his books in hardback 1st printings which I sent (three at a time) to him for signing. If you asked to have them inscribed to yourself, they were mailed back much quicker than if you wanted them just 'flat-signed'.

In your mirror.
I'm about third into The Pocket Wife by Susan Crawford. I was on page 20 there bouts when I thought to myself, "This chick is manic. Shes bi-polr and starting into a manic episode." Yep. I had to take a break just now. The author captures the mania, delusions, anxiety very well. Got me hyper. Ha!
I'm going to take a break and read TWD graphic novel and listen to some songs.
Have a great evening.

I've sold many things I later regretted. Desperate times... I believe you're going to find signed copies of those books again! Think of all the treasures you've already found since then! :)
I have all of those books back in my collection, but of course non are signed. I even have been able to get hardback copies of those books he wrote under various non-de-plumes. My treasure is my 1st printing of The Andromeda Strain.
