The point I'm trying to make is that you should take a step back, and look into your heart. Are you a good person? Take away what everyone else has said. Listen to the inner voice that we all have. Your heart knows if you're a good person or not. And if you are, then nothing else matters.

There are all kinds of good people in this world, people worth knowing, and the best part if it is, they're all so wonderfully different. You don't have to be a wealthy white Christian in order to be "good". All you have to do is stand and be true.

Awww, thanks, you guys are great!

Here, it's illegal to ride on the sidewalk unless one is a child. A bicycle is a street vehicle, and is subject to the same traffic laws as a car, truck, motorcycle, etc.

This is pretty much universal, but it's one of those laws that doesn't get enforced very often. I've never gotten a ticket and don't know anyone who has. I would imagine it would become a problem if you knocked somebody over or ran over someone's dog, but that doesn't happen very often.

Personally, I ride on the sidewalk where it's available (and safe) because I would rather not get run over by someone driving down the street and posting on SKMB (or . . . ya know . . . whatever) at the same time.

It's a funny thing, but I live in a place where it can be winter for six . . . seven . . . eight months out of the year (that Polar Vortex) really killed us and yet it's one of the most bicycle-friendly metro areas in the country (nobody can touch Portland). We've got a great lobby, which is both good and bad at the same time.

They're always pushing for more and better dedicated bike lanes downtown, which screws up traffic year-round to appease people who only use the bike lanes in the summer. You would think I would like that and, to an extent, I do. But here's the thing and there's no getting around it:

Every dollar that is spent on a convenience for someone like me who doesn't really need it is a dollar that won't get spent on a necessity for someone who does.

These tax-and-spend liberal paradises you've heard so much about are not necessarily all you've been told.

Cori, If I may, I'd like to tell you a story.

I have a friend, a young Latino man who is about as close to being born gay as you can get. His family is into a particular Craft, I forget the name, but it's very important to them and they take their craft seriously. He practiced like they did, but what he was you could only become if you'd survived death.

Now, because of his heritage, he was often ridiculed for being gay. And because of his position in his family's craft, he was considered dark and evil. By society, doctors, and police, he was considered insane. Legitimately, certifiably insane. He had been put down, beat up, and walked on for so long that he believed these lies to be true. His walk had taken him down some very dark roads, and by the time we got to know each other, he considered himself to be a lost cause.

Then something happened in his life that he needed a place to stay. I had an extra room, so I took him on as a roommate. The better I got to know him, the more I began to see that this young man was kind, generous, gentle, cared deeply for others, and had a creative genious that you don't often find. Sure, he was eccentric. But I could see at a glance that he wasn't evil or even insane. He was just surrounded by close-minded idiots.

I started trying to show him what I saw. I wanted him to see the truth of himself, and stop believing the lies he'd been fed his entire life. We had a lot of long, deep talks, and he started trying to free himself. I saw a huge improvement, even in the short time that he stayed with me.

He has gotten himself back to school, and is doing well. His family has started treating him with more respect, and whenever I see him he is calmer and happier than he ever was when he first moved in with me. He is able to handle the lows life brings a lot better than before, and I know he has a much better opinion of himself than he once did.

The point I'm trying to make is that you should take a step back, and look into your heart. Are you a good person? Take away what everyone else has said. Listen to the inner voice that we all have. Your heart knows if you're a good person or not. And if you are, then nothing else matters.

Personally, I've found a healthy balance between compassion and not giving a damn...been working like a charm! ;;D

Vehicle insurance companies, I mean I only go absolutely bonkers because there's no actual greedy bloodsucking cheatin' neck you can just reach out and strangle with your bare hands:mad2:...eh, besides that, I merely despise anything and everything about them...including that eye lickin' lizard, I see lunker catchin' fishin' bait:rolleyes:

Insurance -- in its many forms -- is clearly the spawn of Satan.

Tell ya what ya do: Pay me premiums for 20 years, and then when you have a claim, instead of honoring it, we'll hire an investigator to make you out a liar.

I turn on my television set only rarely these days, but whenever I do it seems every ad that isn't trying to sell me prescription drugs is trying to sell me "insurance" with which to buy them.

All those insurance commercials -Who try to be funny... I think that Flo needs to be shot, the Geico gecko needs to be fried and that the stupid commercial with the operation game inventor should be shot.

There is some truth to the State Farm commercials. A friend had a home he owned burned down and the agent phoned him to start a claim even before the office was open!

Part of the reasoning behind my more downer posts earlier was I guess, every time I think about my likely (barring miracles) future, I think,

IT'S GOING TO SUCK AND I WON'T SURVIVE IT!

but when I consider having no future, I think "Eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we die," which is much better! :lemo:

The operation commercial is also GEICO. 99% of commercials are GEICO. I hope that because of GEICO Federal laws will be passed limiting how many new commercials any entity can release with a 7-day period.

Lately something that drives me crazy is the behavior of a neighbor. One of my neighbors takes his junk mail and puts it on top of the mailbox. Then it blows all around and makes a mess right outside my door, so I wind up cleaning up after him. Grown man and he can't throw it in the trash can??

That sounds too lame. Is this a neighbor you have a good relationship with? Is it someone right next to you? If these things aren't so then what about gathering up the junk mail and putting it on his doorstep? Will he know you did it? If he would, would that be bad?

Most very happy to hear that, I mean not your friend's house blazin', about State Farm being that "good neighbor", they became my new insurer yesterday.
