A pair of mockingbirds have decided to nest in a tree outside the bedroom window. They start their calls about 5 AM every morning and must have a repertoire of about 50 different birds. Some of the calls make it impossible to sleep. The chicks better fly the coop real soon or I’m going all Katniss Everdeen on them!

What's driving me crazy today: How much action can a writer cram into one sentence? "She balled her fists, steeling herself against the wall to meet the coming enemy, finally giving herself over to the anger that soon overwhelmed her with body-shaking anticipation."
I mean... how much crap can happen at once?
That's at least two sentences. Maybe three.

An order I placed on Amazon.com was canceled by the seller because the item was out of stock. Their policy is to refund within two business days so when I didn't receive my refund within the first week I contacted them. They said it was out of their hands--that Amazon was in charge of billing. I contacted Amazon and they said they don't process a charge until the item is shipped, which this never was, and that I should contact my bank and ask how long such charges are held before being refunded to the account. I emailed the bank through their website and they never answered, so on Monday I went to the local branch and the teller told me it isn't the bank which took the funds out, it's Amazon, and they, and only they, will have to put them back in. Meanwhile cost of this item I ordered on July 29 and never received is still floating around in the ether on August 17! Talk about passing the buck!

I remember ordering a used book at Amazon...one from Harry Crews as I recall. I've read everything he has written but I wanted to read this story again and many of his books fetch a premium...or the stories in short supply do. Mailman delivers a package to the door. Brown cardboard, Amazon on the label, the perforated zipper you pull to open it. I do. Inside, big hardback with small print, a tome that details book values. Whaaaaa? I think I jumped through the various hoops they've set up, sat there wagging my tail, ready for the biscuit. Never got it. Next time I see them I'll bite them on the leg.
