I grew up in Las Vegas. We lived way out in, was was then, the edge of town. Paradise Valley. There were some subdivisions but also large areas of desert. We'd hike all over the place, miles and miles. My step-brother and our friends. We explored all over that valley. And our parents didn't worry about us as long as we were home by dark.

One of my best childhood memories is when I would spend the night at Grandma's house. My aunt Debbie and uncle Charlie would sometimes let me stay up and watch Saturday Night Live with them on a little tv in Charlie's room that you had to hit with a shoe to turn it on...... I thought I was the coolest kid in the world.

Did anyone else ride their bike with a friend sitting on the handlebars? Also, those little "poppers" that came in a box the size of a sardine can, filled with little tadpole shaped paper filled with what looked like gun powder? LOL. You'd hold the tail and sling it as hard as you could at the pavement. Of course, we threw them at each other, too. These and candy cigarettes are no longer on the market, are they?
