Because the first thing is,we all have a common thread in our liking of SK and his works,so there is that..but after coming here, back in 2011,and exchanging thoughts and ideas and words with you good people,it has become more than a message board..good friends, that have helped with good times and bad,and been kind and accepting..a good crew of people.Sorry we are missing some that are todash, and those that passed, but life does go on,and other members keep joining. Some stay, some don't,but for those that enjoy our particular form of communication,it has been great to have you join too..thanks you guys for being such a good group..

I like to sit in the lounge, sipping my Old-fashioned and hit on the ladies...wait, I'm not Don Draper, my bad.
I started poking around here in 2010 but didn't become a member until 2015. (I sound like the guy from the old Hair Club For Men commercials..."I'm not only the president, I'm a client!") The people here are so welcoming and despite the gumbo of personalities everyone has a place at the table. I learn a lot from the many posts and almost daily I'll find something to make me laugh. Like Spidey said, this place can't be justly compared to other social networking sites. SKMB isn't a crossroads but a destination.

The SKMB is important to me because I have found friendship and understanding here. The members are some of the nicest on the web and I know I can come here and not be attacked because of who I am or what I do. I can play here, learn things here, find new music, TV movies and books here. I can debate here without worrying that things will get out of hand (unlike another forum I used to frequent - yikes!). I keep coming back for all of those things. And, of course, because I kinda work here. ;)

We had had marriages taken place on this site because of Stephen King. Where's Aggie?

We have had had deaths. yes. John. Sharon. and our Nate. Nate.

I've said this before, I joined right in the middle of John's passing. The outpouring of emotions from everyone here at that time.
I knew I had a homeplace.

I wish the older boards will still available to read.
Do not forget Mary, Booger and the other lady whose name I keep on forgetting because the nic was strange.

This is family- a second home. Sharing, caring, laughing, crying (good cries and sad), agreeing and disagreeing, and a learning place too. The true meaning of Ka-Tet-- one made of many. A place to discuss SK and his works, a place to share our lives. A place to come and go, never feeling that you have to be here, yet feeling you must. A hollering home.
I do not consider this place social media like FB or Twitter. It's a homeplace. Lasting friendships that never would have been had it not been for this place.
Ditto, my friend. Couldn't possibly say it better.

I came for the King...I stay for the friends I've made.

Been postin' since 2010, and it's the only form of social media I can stomach. I don't do bookface, I don't twit, er, twat, er...Twitter, whatever. And in my REAL LIFE there are so few people with whom I can discuss the various weird things I'm into. Most folks I deal with look upon books with scorn, or view black and white movies as one does a cat turd in their corn flakes. I love the people here. Most of em 'get' me, and the ones that don't are intrigued...and intriguing.

All except GNTL, though. Me and him are due for a Texas chainsaw steel cage match this fall on pay per view. YOU HEAR ME, BIGGUN? IM'A PUT A HURTIN ON YER BEHEMOTH BEHIND, OLD MAN! THAT BELT IS MINE!!!
....until then you fragrant NY City rat wanna-be.....

....knew nothing of this Board those many years ago, when I by chance found it referenced on the Interwebs and came to check it out.....my initial reason was the same as others-seemed like a good spot to share a common bond of King appreciation.....did that in my own clunky way for a short time-and then went dormant, due to real life stuff....but when I came back, and really took a look around-I saw a community-not a bunch of posers, posting about what they ate and "gee doesn't my hair look to die for?"....a gathering of folks which had been brought together by the universal love of King's projects, but which had grown way beyond that....the core members are as real to me as my own family, and I have been blessed to have met many and look forward to seeing more...the day to day members are my brothers, sisters and best friends...odd that it's possible in a faceless media, but the love is there and it's tactile....sure, we bicker on occasion, and the real miscreants get the boot-still, friendship, love and warmth abide.....I look forward to pulling up a seat at the table everyday, and losing myself in the gestalt.....this Board is special, and so are the people-thanks for having me......

I love how everyone is respectful. Even big disagreements are talked out (mostly) respectfully. And people do these things using real words.

That is a second thing I love. Everywhere else, it seems, the internet is full of people who thought it was cool to renounce words in order to use a joke of a language. Then they did it because they got lazy. Now they do it because that is all the language they know. I simply cannot stand it. (Whenever I see "LOL", which I have used myself, I always wonder if the one who typed it even smiled, let alone "laughed out loud").

I also like going to the written works sections of the boards, but only for stories I have read. I fell I am really missing out since all the conversations started and ended before I came here, and are now lost along with the old content. Now people will comment less there since they already said all they would. :disturbed:

It's the only place where I can truly discuss and share memories of SK books and have people understand.
It's the only place where people put up with my Munsters obsession.
It's the only chat board in all the cyber world I've ever found where people are genuinely nice.
Edit: one more. It's the only chat board with a "Tara" thread.
The 'Tara' thread is the icing on the cake. ;-D

Old threads can always be revived when someone adds their thoughts and feelings to the mix. It sparks new conversations, and gives people who have commented their previously new insights of their own.
